"Protected" Leather recommendations

We use crust leather to test protection values because crust leather has no other surface finish applied therfore the only thing that can afffect the degree of penetration into the leather is the product that has been applied to it. The reason we do our tests on crust leather is that it is impossible to verify any finish that may have been applied to a finished leather, this factor would introduce inconsistencies into our testing.

For the pendantic out there, there will be a slight discrepency between crust hides but it is the closest to a consistent leather sample that we are able to obtain.

If a protector inhibits oils from absorbing into a crust leather then it will protect the finsh on a leather in the same way.

Still waiting for product recommendations from you.

With all of the leather pdorcuts out there I'm confused on what really is good and which is harmful to newer leather seats. Right now I'm using Zaino Z9 leather cleaner and Z10 treatment. How are these products at protecting leather over time? If there's better products that I should be using to help preserve the leather I'd rather know know than later on.

Leather cleaners should be foam water based cleaners (no creams, oils, waxes etc.) and leather protectors should be water based fluorochemicals containing no waxes, oils, silicones etc. Conditioners are not necessary as discussed. If you apply these criteria to products you will be on the right lines.

You have seen good results from Sonus on your G? I have an 03 so maybe the leather is different. All I know is it seems my leather is drier and more wrinkled then it was before I used Sous.

How are you apply it to the leather and how frequently? I have applied it twice in the last 4 months.

Well, my G37 is relatively new (July), I applied it last week for the first time. I haven't noticed any drastic difference that you mentioned.

Still wondering, does anyone have anything specifically bad to say about Sonus and why?

The only bad thing I've ever read about the Sonus conditioner is that it smells bad on some leathers.

I just tested some out the other day on our leather sofa. It does smell bad out of the bottle but it's not unbearable by any means. I've read some greatly exaggerated reports from people who claim that it smells like death.

After it dries it actually gives the leather a bit of that new leather smell. I have no complaints about the smell.

Too bad they're in the UK. Their Lazy Leather product looks like something I'd like to try.

Well, the site says they ship worldwide.

FWIW I'm doing OK with the LM stuff, got mine at TOL. Not that I treat my leather interiors on a remotely regular basis.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe I'm cheap, but shipping internationally isn't worth it to me :grinno: And, like you, I don't treat my leather all too regularly...monthly Woolite wipe downs and an occasional spritz of OLP has been working great for me.

Guess I'm too used to the reasonable shipping from PakShack :D

But yeah...I dunno about doing the across-the-pond thing over some leather treatment that we hardly ever use anyhow.

Ive stopped using conditioners on coated leathers. But I have one question, why does the leather feel softer after using a conditioner?

So Optimum Protectant Plus wouldnt be a good choice for leather since it contains "penetrating oils"?

It's not the leather itself that feels softer, probably just the product sitting on top of it. Kinda like paint when it feels soft and slick, it's not the paint that's giving you the feel, it's the topper.

Very true, I never thought about it like that. Thanks David.

100% correct.

Here int he states it is LM. I would caution purchasing things that are from out side the us as a mobile detailer. It is not likely that you will be able to get an msds sheet to carry with you on your truck.
