Pros ... do you do any jobs by hand?

I hope Scottwax answers because I've seen his work in his "Pre PC era", but this is directed to all pros.

Do you ever do jobs by hand? Of course, I mean on customer's cars that are in very good shape that don't need extensive paint remedies.

Yes indeed.....If it's a car without any flaws a machine won't see the finish......all by hand with quality microfiber towels :xyxthumbs

Since I started my own mobile detailing business in 1986, I have always specialized in doing 100% of the polishing and waxing only by hand. No machines.

My automobile customers use my detailing services at least two times a year. Once in the spring to protect against the UV rays of the summer sun and again in the fall to protect against winter snow, ice and road salt. The majority of my customers usually have their cars detailed as many as three to four times a year, with the change of each season.

My antique and classic car customers use my detailing service about every other month during the car show season. Since all of the work is done only by hand, antique and classic car owners know who they can trust when it comes to taking care of their collector cars.

In summary, the target market that I have always aimed at usually owns expensive vehicles that are kept in very good condition and are maintained on a regular basis. That is the need that my business has been able to fill.

I think Scottwax did all of his work by hand for many years up until he got a PC not too long ago. Hopefully he'll chime in here.

Like Matt said, I did everything by hand for a long time. When I started out, the single stage and clear coat paints weren't very hard but they are now, so I mostly use my PC for polishing. I still wax by hand though since I can do it more quickly and use less product than by machine. The only exception is NXT which works best for me using a polishing pad and my PC.

On some cars, there are areas you can only access by hand so on those cars, you don't have much choice.

My BF and I run a reqistered business and we do everything by hand minus compounding and application of AIO is done with the PC. I prefer to apply products by hand and remove by hand as well. Just our style. We move quicker and have had no complaints in two years. Oh occasionally we apply VM with a PC orange pad.

One thing that we are in desparate need of is pads. All we have is orange and just one whine and green polish pad. No money right now though.v
