Product to reduce brake dust adhering to alloy wheels

Are there sealants, waxes, etc. that make the alloy wheels easier to clean. I spend almost as much time cleaning the wheels on the Audi as washing the rest of the car.

IMHO the manufacturers don't put enough clear coat on the wheels to begin with. I had some motorcycle wheels repainted and heavily cleared.....much easier to clean with the heavy clear coat. They also should figure out how to create a clear coat that is less porous, and thus brake dust won't stick to it as easily.

When I bought my LS, it had factory chrome wheels on it, which I didn't like. Salesman told me to live with them for three months, and then if I still didn't like them, they would exchange them and give me some credit. When I realized that brake dust didn't adhere to the chrome....I decided to like them.

I would like to make life easier with some product that would help reduce brake dust from the wheel and or make it easier to clean off.

  • Michelin Brake Dust Repellant
  • a high temperature sealant
  • Eagle One Keep Clean Wheel
  • Meguiar's Instant Wheel Detailer (for more frequent clean-ups between washes)

I've used:

Zaino Z5

Zaino Z-CS

Optimum Poli-Seal

Optimum Opti-Seal

Poorboy's Wheel Sealant

FK1000 Hi-Temp

All work very well, I cant choose a favorite. I also cant comment on durability as I reapply at nearly every wash. I used Zaino since 06 and just started to use Optimum this year. Optimum feels slicker, but looses it beading much faster than Zaino. I like beading.

FK1000 sits on the car I leave outside. Longevity is its strong suit. The brake dust just slides off the wheels with a hose.
