Powerpolish Not Enough?

Good afternoon Everybody,

Last night bought and used some Mother's Powerpolish on my white Vic hood with yellow, orange, and green Edge pads. While most of the swirls seem to have been removed fairly easily, the light scratches seem to have stayed. I did the hood at a rate of about 1in per sec, and made many passes but the scratches don't seem to have been phazed. I used anywhere from 4.5 to 6 for speed still without effect.

So from my understanding it would be near useless to get some DACP and they have similar agressiveness. So what should be my next step up to remove these light scratches? By light I mean that my fingernail does not catch on them, and they can't be felt, but if you shine the light at them they show up clearly. For some reason I couldn't get my digital camera to take a picture where they showed up.

Thanks for any suggestions guys...

I think we would need to see the scratches. Powerpolish coupled with an orange or yellow pad has punch, so I assume maybe you need to step in compound territory.

Sonus SFX-1 would be a good choice.

I have no problem taking pictures of it, if it would just show up. Its there to the eye, but not to the camera...does anyone have suggestions on how to get the scratches to show up in a picture???

Brighter light, more focused beam of light, manual focus so you can "make" the camera see the swirls.

Just throwing out ideas.

As to the polish, I'm guessing you used a PC, not a rotary buffer? If using a PC, the scratches, although they may seem light, may be too much for a PC, at least not without going to a compound, as Alex mentioned. If you have a friend that's comfortable with a rotary, maybe try that.

According to this, SFX-1 is about as aggressive as DACP. I agree it's time to choose the next more aggressive step. Use that chart to help select the next more abrasive products.
