Popular products that didn't work out for you

P21S- Way too expensive, not impressed with the looks. Very easy to use, though. My jar of #26 cost less than half of what the P21S cost (and I got twice as much!) and it looks better too.

Wolfgang-

I like the look of the sealant, but it has horrible durability and the paint cleaner does absolutely nothing

NXT-

The "wax" is OK, but nothing special. Doesnt fill, or provide that great of a look and doesnt last at all.

NXT Booster spray wax-

Garbage!!! Can be finiky to work with, can streak and does nothing for appearance a QD cant do

NXT Insane tire shine-

Way to expensive, very greasy and doesnt dry, slings like a fool

Vinylex-

Awful stuff! Although it does have some cleaning ability it is greasy, shiny and smeary if not used with caution.

Menzerna FP (old formula)-

While I like the IP and have no problems, no matter what Ive tried with the FP I have never been able to use it without serious headaches whether by PC or rotary.

CK Vanilla Moose-

Nothing particularly wrong with it, just not my favorite. It is very easy to work with but has almost zero polishing abilities

Meg's #41 dressing-

Did the formula change, or my preferences? I used to like but the last bottle I bought seems pretty shiney and the smell is fairly strong inside a vehicle

Mothers QD-

Wierd smell, doesnt enhance appearance much, not very slick

Klasse SG- Tried it a couple of times on my laser red Cobra, never used it again. I could never apply it thin enough.

Meg's NXT liquid wax- Horrible durability. I never really liked the way it looked, not much depth.

Meg's NXT booster wax- Pain in the *** application. Didn't look any better than Meg's QD either.

303- Way too expensive. #40 is cheaper and looks better.

Mothers FX tire shine- Picked up a bottle over the weekend. Crappy sprayer, didn't spread worth a crap

Turtle Wax platinum tire shine- slung, ok durability.

Long Haul QD- Great for door jambs and under hood but seemed to be a too strong for exterior paint. Fruity chemical smell is a bit of a turn off.

Nice to see you over here :D

What do you prefer as your main swirl remover? Optimum? Menzerna?

Klasse SG- To freaking hard to use and didnt amaze me

Poorboys S+G, too easy to streak and doenst leave as good as finish as Adams or Pinnacle

Did you just spray on and drive away? The best way I've found to prevent the slinging is to spray on then spread with a preferably dry tire swipe. But yes, at $6 a bottle it's still not worth the trouble.

Didn't mean to hijack.

1z Glanz Wax - Not as slick as any of my LSPS, look muted my champagne metallic car. Didn't last very long.

#16 - Durability doesn't make up for so-so looks and poor slickness.

Liquid Souveran - Decent looks, so-so slickness, bad durability.

WCD Blue WW - Not as soft as others after many uses, could be wax buildup, but takes 2 of them to dry my G35. First dry passes with them just push water around, takes a few minutes and some moisture before they really start drying.

Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner- Did nothing for me that AIO would not do better.

3M swril remover- Did not remove one swril

These were my first purchases, and luckly I kept on going after my dismal results.

lol...RCBudda...you are a hard man to please. It seems like none of the popular products work for you or meet your expectations.

Dont worry yourself mate

All products mentined in this thread are actually A1 products but we all have personal preferences, take Rich above his work is outstanding and I totally respect his detailing but I would disagree on the #21 and #16 thing it just comes down to personal likes and dislikes :xyxthumbs

Cobraryan I prefer ssr line by pc and megs line by rotary or cyclo

Mosca I wish I could find #26 for a buck a jar!

Very true mate going to revist #16 as a winter wax as Its being over a year since I opened my tin!

Me not liking #21 and #16 like you say is down to my personal preference, in the same way as my number one product ever VM and other two faves Souveran and Wolfgang Sealant are not liked by other user on this thread.

With these products I think its down to what works for you, on your cars/colour, suits your own cars useage, volume of work and looks best in your own eyes.

LOL was wondering what he does like to!

Mothers FX SynWax: Very shiney, goes on easy, comes off easy... Just did not like the look is gave off. I guess I am a carnuba look man!

NXT - Looks great on top ofAIO on my car, but durability is nil

Menzerna IP and FP II - Did nothing for the swirls in my Audi paint

Funny, I resurrected my can of #26 that I haven't used in at least 10 years, to top SG on my friend's car. Between Autopian thinness of application, and the SG underneath, it was a pleasure to use, and gave the car a nice glow.

Yeah, it is! I hope we can all see that there is just SO MUCH variation in what people like and don't like!

HATE

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser: too strong, took off color from my blue leather steering wheel and my blue vinyl top. Thank God for Klasse VRLP, I was able to undo a good percentage of the damage. The product I hate the mostest.

Meg's Endurance- greasy, dirt stuck to it and made a mess of my cleaning brushes. Durability is good but who wants to have brown tires for a month.

Meg's 3-step: arm-busting beginner's stuff and while it looks good, it's not too impressive looking. There are products that are easier to use that give better results.

DISLIKE

NevrDull: not that shiny, dullest of my metal polishes. As long as I'm not looking to it to be my final polish, it works decently in certain situations.

Zymol Cleaner Wax: can be made to look very good but that involves a lot of work. And then it's gone in a few days.

Meg's Gold Class liquid (original): need I say more. Only good thing is that it's more durable (LOL)than Zymol CW and easier to use. Not as good looking as ZCW.

Meg's pink car wash: suds are thin, not sudsy, not very good at cleaning

Meg's car wash strips: as above

NXT Speed Detailer: one-trick QD, only worked good with NXT paste wax. Prone to streaks, much harder to buff than EO QD. Doesn't like humidity or warm surfaces.

EITHER/OR

S100 carnauba- very easy to use but very short-lived. It's my absolute fave on silver when used over AIO. On the other hand, I hated AIO/S100 on my sapphire blue metallic Miata. But I used S100 SEC and S100 wax X2 on same Miata and it looks great. So, I have to experiment to get the best from it.

Eagle One car wash: not too impressed but the price is right

S100 gel wheel cleaner: nice and gentle but sometimes too nice and gentle. $$$

NXT Tech Protectant: good but oily, for tire use only. I like the sheen and that it was easy to wash off to prevent excessive build-up. It was a favored product until I rediscovered Armor All for use on tires (applied with tire swipe). Not to touch my vinyl top or interior. Doesn't last long for me. I'd use again but a second-string product right now.

What metal polishes have you found to provide a higher luster?

Mr Clean Magic Eraser is only good for very specific applications. In essence it's a super fine block of sandpaper, so when using it you *are* removing material from the surface of whatever you're using it on.

Products that I really didn't like, and probably wouldn't use them again that seem to be "favorites" amongst the forum are...

-Poorboy's EX/EX-P (I really tried with these two, but I always got medicore durability, and I always ended up with stained trim, not matter how thin and careful I applied. I also get the staining with PwC but I really like that polish and i'm willing to accept it)

-Wolfgang Sealant (Had a really nice look, but durabilty *for me* was horrible, even worse than EX/EX-P :grinno: )

-Clearkote Carnuaba Moose Wax (It didn't exactly wow me and application/removal could have been easier, although I do hear it works in nicely via PC/finishing pad.)

I think thats it. I really can't think of many more, I don't get to detail so much, so I have limited experience.

We need to set up a new trade post for all of these items we dont like. I am sure the ones I dom't like others love, and vice-versa!

Applying it by machine definitely makes it easier to use (not that I find it hard to use by hand), wipes off noticably easier and seems to give a deeper look. It is the one product I keep going back to on my own car because it gives me the best look.

Isn't it odd how what looks great to one person doesn't to another? That's one of the reasons I don't like getting pms and e-mails from people asking me what they should use on their cars. I don't have their eyes so I don't really know.

JustinTRW,

for fine finish, I use Wenol red followed by Wenol blue. Red had some very mild abrasives while blue is purely chemical. Can make polished stainless look like chrome. Gives a show car shine to metals. Also had good results with Eagle One mag and aluminum polish. I use the Eagle One to polish my titanium bike. Very nice
