A friend picked up a 91 SHO for a fun little toy to play with. It's modded, and boy it was a fun car to drive :2thumbs: Any case, we didn't have time to do everything we wanted, and we just wanted to concentrate on livining the paint up some. It has some rust that another mutual friend is going to work on, and probably in the spring we will spend another day on it getting the rest of it back up to snuff, but for now, we just wanted to get the paint a little better. Sorry for the larger pics and lighting conditions... we did it in my garage where it was 64 degrees, a far cry from the 30 it was outside. I also have a video that really shows the difference in the paint :woot2:
He had already washed and clayed it, so for the drive over to my house we just gave it another QEW to make sure it was clean. The first step is an unusual one, most say can't be used with a PC, but I have experimented and used it with success following up with other polishes for very bad scratches or paint. DACP just wasn't doing it, which is why I went with the next aggressive polish I had. The routine was:
Meguiar's #4 Heavy Cut with a cutting pad
Meguiar's #83 DACP with a cutting pad
Meguiar's #80 Speed Glaze with a light cutting pad
Followed up with using Optimum Wax.
Pics of course don't show the difference well, but the video does, You'll see it further down the post
The lights you see in my garage that I had on were a couple fluorescents and two 500 watt halogens (1000 watts total).
Here is what we started with on the hood:
After a little polishing it gets better:
You can see the far side that has had the first step polishing and the near side untouched:
