Polished and Waxed a 50ft yacht

We spent almost a whole day polishing and waxing this 50ft yacht. The owner will not let anyone else touch his boat except me as I did his last two yachts. It seems he keeps upgrading every year. He started with a 42ft, then upgraded last spring to a 46ft, and now upgraded again to this 50ft. We polished it with Heller Glanz and then topped it with 3m marine grade paste wax. The sides really show the reflection. Here is the whole boat.

:up that is one nice boat!! The biggest that i have done to date was a 42ft sunseeker, but i have a few 55' & 65' to do in april... Was it just you on this one, or you and helpers?

Holy cow.

Incredible. You win something. I don't know, we'll have to make something up.

Then ther'e Jimmy Buffit with the plain, and Scottwax with the 44' RV.

Did you do it with a PC or a rotary? Is it a gel coat. Also did you do the cabin etc?

How much do you charge for something like that? $500?

Wow! To quote Robin Williams, "That's God's way of telling you that you have tooo much money."

Does Mirrorfinishman's 'rule' of two feet per hour apply?

Here, I'm making stuff up, but that would be 25 manhours, and if we charged $20 per hour, it would be a $500 job... I wonder if it is enough?

Big job!

Excellent work, Rick! What kind of durability are you getting from that 3M wax? Good thing you have those huge boats keeping you busy. The weather this February isn't as bad as last year but it isn't that great either. Supposed to start raining tonight and through Saturday, nice the next two days then two more days of rain. :(

At least I talked the guy with the 44' motorcoach into letting me go nuts on the exterior for today and tomorrow (if needed). :)

My price for the boat was $300, but we only did the hull - from the rubrail on down. I was supposed to do the whole boat, but things change. It took us about 5 hours to polish and wax.

The 3M wax is supposed to be really durabable and last longer than most marine waxes since it is a paste wax. I will keep you updated on how long it lasts.

Just to clear some air since I am down south in Texas, pricing is usually based on location. I noticed on the east and west coast, prices range from $15 ft - over $20 ft. I price my boats between $10 ft - $15 ft, because there are a lot of local companies that run day labor to clean boats. Those companies charge between $6 ft - $8 ft, but I rate them as overrated boat washers. My customers know they get a quality detail and keep coming back. I get more referrals that way and end up making between $350- $500 a day during the spring and summer. As I think Jimmy Buffit will tell you "it is all in the location and do not overprice your self out of business".

That really looks like it would take more then 5 hours to polish and wax. Looks great though.

Not with a good helper. My son and I knocked out that 44' coach in 5 hours but today, working by myself for about 6.5 hours, I didn't finish. I have about 1.5 hours of work left to finish it.

Scott is right on the good helper! If you have someone that is good and you do not have to watch over him, then it can be finished quickly. I am lucky and found a good helper. We work real good together and think a like.

The reason I did not do above the rubrail is that Marine Max had to do so many minor repairs there was no time for the top. The owner scheduled the upper detail for the first of March after the dealer finishes with some modifcations and minor factory repairs.
