please help a hack

I took on a job that is turning out to be way over my head. It seemed simple enough....

It;s a black Ford Taurus that had an industrial enamel overspray on it. I used clay magic and that took off about the top layer of overspray. The car finish feels smooth but white spots of overspray are still visiable, and the owner isn't pleased. Plus, I have put all sorts of swirl marks in the car.

Today I started buffing with a PC, polishing pad and DACP. that took some of the swirls out. I went to a more aggressive set up of a cutting pad and HI-Temp Light cut. That peels off the overspray dots and helps level the swirls, though they are slight and faint, they are still visible.

What should I do....?

I don't have an answer but I was wondering how you like the lite cut? I was thinking of getting that or DHCP

Things to try,
Chemical paint cleaner (AIO, MMPC, etc)
DACP with a cutting padding,
Compound with various pads follow up with a polish
Laquer thinner.

It doesn't sound terriable (yet)

If you could get us pictures it would be a lil better!

2. What were you using that put swirl marks in the car? (rotary or PC?

Ok Remedy!

I like the poorboys products becasue they allow you to work them for a fair period of time...compaird to other products!

I have had success with SSR1 SSR2 and SSR 2.5 I did the same thing to my car (Black mustang Convertible ) only I installed some nice holograms with a rotary.

With a PC and a polishing pad I used SSR 2.5 and really worked it... with a little work I was able to get everything out !

Odviously you are upset and concerned for the finish. Is this a paying customer, friend, or your own car? Does it look better then when you started? Are you using less aggressive compounds as you step down? Maybe try Megs swirl remover with polishing pad. It seems hard to believe you could have put big swirls in with a PC and a polishing pad. I am not saying you can't put them in, but seems hard to believe. Where they there before you started and just couldn't see them because the car was very dirty or not well taken care of:dunno Pics would help.

Wash the vehicle move it to a cool area if you haven't done so use 3M adhesive remover for your problem do ONE area at a time to ensure proper removal. Rewash and rinse CLAY the vehicle,Follow with Hi-Temp Light Cut with a PC @ 5 [YELLOW PAD] then your favorite sealant[NXT,EX-P] 2 coats waiting 30 minute between each coat FOR PROPER COVERAGE of the vehicle's paint. Thats my 2cents GOOD LUCK.

wow! Thanks for all your suggestions. The common theme seems to be:
1. Don't give up.
2. keep at it and try a less agressive approach each step of the way.ernman: I like the light cut. It seems to cut just a bit more than DACP. It worked great on my Ford Ranger.

edschwab1: I tried Goof off, Mineral Spirits, Clay Magic (red and blue). This crap is on the car finish TIGHT.

Focusedonsound: I will try to get some pics tomorrow.
the swirls/scratches came from the hard bits of overspray that got into the claybar. Obviously I did something wrong with the clay.

OI812 You are right it does bother me. This is a paying customer. And potentially the one to start or end a part time car cleaning++++++ side-job.

One thing I am concerned about is as the light cut and DACP start to work and dry, they put off dust. Is that partly where the swirls come from?

Man, talk about getting an education! Thanks folks!

would Menards/Home Depot have the 3m adhesive remover? I have two more cars to do after this nightmare. I hope I do anyway... (not fired first)

our shop had 30 cars come in with the same problem, parked in a parkade all with overspray, talk about a pain in the @SS. IF THE PAINT HAS BEEN SET ON FOR AWHILE try using industrial fallout remover first, also, carbrite has road paint remover wipes they work awesome, but you will have to polish after.
