pics of our new shop

looks a little tight in that cluster shot...how is it working on all those??? can you open doors on two cars without coming too close? enough room to walk by without having to close the door???? or is that how the cars may be stored to get them inside overnight?

I love the color scheme! looks really legit!

That is what I want my next house to look like--just like that, but with a cot and a tv in the corner. I'm a little puzzled why you didn't put the fluorescent strips a little lower?

Setec!! You forgot about the Endless Pool in the other corner!!!

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone!

To answer a few questions:

We rent the spot, but signed a pretty long lease, so we did some improvements ourselves. We would have loved to buy a building some place, but even in our somewhat depressed commercial real estate market, we just did not have the funds. Even moving into the new shop with all of the shelves, extra equipment, etc, it was pretty hard on the bank account--thankfully we were lean in the better years(started the business in jan 07), so we made the move/improvements with cash.

jeteast99, nope, we didn't have the room. My customers *rarely* wait on vehciles, but if they do the sister business in the building has a large waiting area.

RaskyR1, we negotiated that as part of the build out, but rumor has it that it was 30 grand--IMO one could do the same with prefab units on ebay for *much* cheaper. In my neck of the woods *no one* does this sort of thing(they just discharge the water anywhere and wait on the fines I guess), so the plumbers were not as familiar--they made forms and poured the catches??? I also think that the size was way overkill, but they stated that code called for such a contraption. :D

toyotaguy, that was just for storage, a few were done and needed to be picked up. We can work on five at the same time, but four is better(plus one being prepped in the washbay with either scenario).

Setec Astronomy, :dunno It was my first time even trying to set up a shop from "scratch." Heck I was just glad to have lights at all. I figured if they were too low, they would just get damaged by doors/people. The metal halide bulbs provide the majority of the lighting...... How low do you think they should be?

Hopefully the curtain will be here next week and the rest of the shelving will be installed soon--so many things to do!

Thanks again everyone!

Very nice. I wish you guys the best of luck. You did it the right way and by code. Thats what it takes. Just looks so clean I would be afraid to get it dirty. COngrats on the big step. Now get off here, and get to work that 30 day lease payment will be here soon!

I thought maybe you were concerned with the lights getting damaged or dirty...seems to me that some people have shown shops where the lights are 3 or 4 feet off the floor--you know, door level. I think you can get some clear covers so the bulbs can't get broken...or maybe that's a special fixture, you can certainly buy fixtures that have clear covers.

Anyway, looks like a great space, and you did a great job setting it up. Let me know when you want to open a branch in NJ, Jr. and I will come and help out, as long as you put a cot and a tv...oops, and an Endless Pool in the corner...:D

Specatular shop Joe !!! Very impressive workspace which demonstrates to your customers your commitment to excellence as soon as they see the environment you work in.

Great job !!!

That is a shop to die for!

How many squre feet is the shop area, and have you thought about just buying a polyetylene tarp or two for the wash area until the cutrain comes in?

PS: Love the pic of the Shelby in the wash bay! :woot:
