Pet peeve drivers!

Back in the late 80's thru 95, I lived in the Anahiem area and had several good Asian friends.

Used to kid them with things like "How do you make an Asian blind? Put a windshield in front of them."

"How do you get an Asian driver to go from 0 to 70 and down to 20 mph in a short time?

Put them on an "on ramp" and watch for the green light."

Steve, a good Asian friend would come back with (since I came from the Midwest) with, "How do you spot a flatlander in a rental car at a stop light? Watch them try to go through a stop light as soon as it turns green!" (big wreck for that one- you learn, that after your light goes green- count at least three cars still accelerating through their yellow caution light)

"How do you spot someone from NYC or the East Coast driving in traffic in LA?-They drive with the horn!"

I must drive through a different PA when I go visit the in-laws in Pittsburgh.

Heh... yeah, Pittsburgh is still too far west. Central to southeastern PA, like on the Turnpike, etc., I find that people generally honor the "keep right" idea.

I thought WVA was a "keep right except to pass" state, but you sure couldn't prove it by how people behave on their turnpike

Had another one yesterday: People who pull way past the line and into the intersection. Especially annoying when I am making a right turn and they prevent me from seeing the coming traffic to do so.

Concourswanna B- Eh, their link to the West Virginia law didn't work. It was frustrating, but as I said, I was wanting people to let me break the speed limit so if they want to be inconsiderate I guess I don't have much of a right to gripe.

But I do get [ticked] off when the guy behind *me* tailgates me as if I could somehow make the left-lane-bandit speed up or something...I'd bet my bottom dollar that the guy behind me would cause a wreck if I had to really get on the brakes.

Sorry, some bad links on that page. Looks like WV is a "keep right" state:

WV Code Chapter 17C Article 7

When you have a chain of cars behind a left-lane hog, it starts to get dangerous, so I usually just stay out of it at that point. I think this should be taken just as a common courtesy that makes life easier, sort of the way people will stay right when walking up stairs in a public building.

My last company car was an all black Mercury Gran Marquis.

On the interstates, those lane hoggers would see a big black American sedan coming up and get out of the way.

They didn't know a Crown Vic from a Gran Marquis, thought it was a cop.

Have driven on business, all over the country and Canada, since 1966 until I retired.

Seen every stupid driver stunt ever done.

Sometimes, not often, late at night while driving a long run to be where I needed to be in the morning, would pull on an off ramp, over to the side, parking lights on and clear my head and kidney's.

Fun to watch someone in a little Jap car running 100 mph and see that big black thing setting up off the interstate----BRAKE LIGHTS--etc, scared the heck out of them.

Yeah, I too just pull over, dial it back, and eat a protein bar or mess with the stereo or something. Don't want to be the middle part of a chain-reaction wreck.

Oh, and thanks for confirming that WV *is* "keep right", not that people seem to care.

Ron Ketcham- Roger that on the Ford Panthers and their effect on other drivers :chuckle: Can be a hassle when somebody in front of you spikes the brakes and remains law-abiding for miles on end though. And I'd hate to run into some seriously bad people who decide to "take out the cop" with a first strike. I've driven those cars through neighborhoods where I felt distinctly unpopular.

Try in the port areas of LA, NJ, try in the darkest part of Detroit, day and night, go through the getto in St Louis, etc. in a "cop mobile", wearing a suit and tie.

The old Marine in me came out when I did those drives.

Had this happen to me today. I'm in the right lane at the red light, looking for an opening to turn. A pickup truck pulls up on my left, past the stop bar, while the driver is talking on his cell and smoking a cigarette. Totally blocked my view of oncoming traffic (when he couldn't go anywhere until he had a green light!), so I couldn't turn. Cars behind me blew their horns (they could see from being behind him that nothing was coming, but I couldn't see anything except his passenger side fender).

So I got cussed out and beeped at, because this a**hole couldn't stop at the stop bar.

Another new one today.......on I-95 in the right lane, decent traffic with most everyone going near the speed limit. The guy in front of me is going to exit to the right, on an exit that is more than 1/4 mile long and is totally visible from the right hand lane of the interstate. Despite going around 70 and having 1/4 mile to slow down/stop while on the flat empty exit lane, he decides to slow to 45 WHILE STILL IN THE RIGHT LANE OF TRAFFIC before entering the exit.

As a result, I and 4 other cars had to brake/change lanes, when all he had to do was enter the ramp at 70, slow smoothly and traffic could flow effortlessly on the interstate. And it wasn't like he wasn't prepared to exit; he had his blinker on for 50 yards before the exit. Clearly, he was just an idiot.
