PC speed 6 = Ludicrous speed?

If there were a speed 7, it'd probably vibrate your hands off. When I am done detailing an entire car with the PC my hands always itch. Lately, I've been finishing with Optimum polish on an Edge finishing pad (via rotary). I've got two black cars under my belt so far with no issues (hologramming, marring, etc.).

I tried some more polishing this weekend (taking some scratches off a friend's car) and tried 6 a couple times and it wasn't so bad. I think holding the pad perfectly level on the surface makes a big difference.

I know that using the PC at speed 6 is very popular, and I used to use it at 6 all the time... I still use it at 6 for Menzerna polishes, but for my Meguiars ones I never use speed 6 anymore as it dries up the polish too fast before it has a chance to properly break down. Instead, speed 5 for slow passes with medium pressure and a long time for the rpoduct to thoroughly break down. With #80 and #83 I have found superior results using this technique.

Another thing I've been starting to notice in the UK is PCs dying, and its generally the ones that have seen regular use at speed 6 that are failing. It seems to really knock the units for 6, which is why I've stepped down to using them on speed 5 now most of the time - if I need more power, the Makita comes out.

I like to start at 4 with medium pressure, then up the speed to 5 or 6 as it starts to dry...well, not dry, but you can tell when you're working it in.
