Painters' Truck Befores and Afters~56K Caution

rw3829

PC + Patience = Reward!
Well here is the photos of the detail from Hell...As a refresher to those who may have saw the previous post about this detail coming up, the truck belongs to a friends' boss who runs a painting business and let's his Mom use the truck almost exclusively. The truck is a leased 2005 Dakota Extended Cab, black with beige interior, and completely ruined. He wants to turn it back in because Mom could care less about the condition (obviously). She uses the truck for the business (picking up supplies, etc.). I'm still unsure how it got in this condition. Process was as follows:

Wash with Zymol

Cleaned tires/wheels with ArmorAll Multi Purpose cleaner

Started spilled paint removal with Sprayaway Industrial Wipes (By far, a MUCH needed miracle product for this type of damage, more on this later)

Polish with Hi-Temp Medium Cut/LC Polishing Pad/PC on 6

Top with Megs NXT then TW Platinum QD

Interior:

Removed front seats/console

Folex (By far the best interior cleaner ever used)

ArmorAll Multi Purpose for stained plastic and vinyl applied via Microfiber

Protected with 303

Tires:

ArmorAll Foam

Glass:

Invisible Glass

Enough talk...Here we go!

Forgot to mention the owner was getting rid of the bedliner, which had at least a gallon of spilled paint stuck in between the "runners" of the liner floor. I was glad because the Wipes were too aggressive for that plastic. As for the Sprayaway wipes, I ordered them as a precautionary measure as I have never needed anything for paint removal before. Glad I did as the clay did not make a dent in it. You must be very careful with these wipes...I will give a revue in the Product forum. My buddy Tim, whose house is where we teamed up on the truck, was the biggest help. He removed the seats and cleaned the interior of both trucks (ran out of battery life in the camera for the second truck, a Silverado). Without his help it the details could not have happened.

Hey Smoked, thanks! The wipes were the miracle product! When you remove a wipe from the tube, it is folded. The wipe is designed as a two-sided cloth; the outside part (which is what see when you pull it out of the tube, is used to scrub the problem after using the inside of the cloth which is saturated with cleaner. You place the cleaner part on the problem for around 30 seconds to a minute and let the cleaner soften up the paint problem. Then you gently rub it off! Done! I just lightly wiped the cloth over the problem areas as they were mainly on the side of the truck, let it sit a minute, then went back over it with a damp terry towel. Some stains needed a couple of applications, but it was not a problem. It is VERY strong though, so be careful! I rubbed a bit too hard on one spot and it dulled the small area (polished out nice though). I never let it sit too long, as I followed it with that wet terry towel, which also added to the cleaning somewhat. Sorry for the long reply, but this product excites me to no end!

Thanks guys...I'll have to check the dispenser and post tomorrow as I am heading to bed now. I will post this from TOTL:

Road Paint Remover

Road Paint Remover: The latest innovation in road/ highway paint removal is Sprayway's Industrial Strength graffiti and adhesive remover.

Cut through paint splatter, ink, adhesive, grease, and wax build-up. Our new Industrial Strength Wipes are a fast, single-step alternative to super-tough cleaning problems. Highway paint removal isn't an instant wipe process, but will be successful with a little patience and proper application of the wipes.

Powerful cleaning formula removes most paints, including enamel

Contains no acetate or methylene chloride, making it safer to handle

Non-toxic, non-flammable, non-hazardous

No harmful or nauseous fumes

Fabric wipe material aids in cleaning

Long shelf life

Throw away disposal

These towels are indespensible for private, public or commercial use. Use them in garages, for bathroom walls, desks, tile, siding, lockers, shelving, fleet vehicles, buses, etc. Carry them with you or store them near your work area. (40) 9.5" x 12" pre moistened, pop-up towels.

APPLICATION FOR ROAD PAINT: Lay the smooth side of the wipe over the contamination to saturate the surface. Let it sit for about one minute to soften the paint. Use the textured side of a new wipe and rub vigorously. Use firm pressure and a lot of action. Particularly difficult cases may take a second application.

Once you have removed the road paint, wash off the chemical with shampoo or glass cleaner. A quick spot polish should bring back the original shine. (Do not use on paint jobs less than 90 days old)

This is the same technique we suggest for old tar removal. If the first application doesn't remove it completely, apply a new wipe and repeat the process.

Great restoration work! :shocked

I hope you were compensated fairly for that. And by fairly... I mean $$$$$$$$

J/K. Regardless, you should be proud of your self for such a drastic transformation. Ya might as well be Michaelangelo, and that Dodge... the Sistine Chapel.

Thanks alot Sean! That means alot coming from you...I really enjoy reading/viewing your posts/work. I appreciate everyone on Autopia and hopefully one day I'll be able to meet the standards set by most who visit here. I just realized I should have posted these pics in Click & Brag. Sorry for the wrong listing...

WOW! When I was looking at the before I kept thinking that "there's no way he's going to get that paint off!". My jaw hit the keyboard when I saw the afters!

Great job! :D

I'll have to look into getting some Folex. The interior came out great also!

Awesome work!! Especially the interior, I shuddered and I think I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw the interior! Just thinking of sitting in the same interior scared me! Great trun around inside and out!!!! You better tell the owner not to let it get that way again, especially since its a lease and they will charge for all the damage!

Thanks guys...Folex is definately my go-to interior cleaner now. Another strange thing about Folex is this: We did the finishing touches Sunday morning on the truck, so the carpet sat overnight drying. Sunday morning, we decided to hit the carpet with the vacuum to smooth it out, and it pulled a crazy amount of dirt out! It was as if the Folex worked into the night and brought dirt up to the surface...We were both amazed at how the carpet looked after cleaning the night before, and blown away at the difference after vacuuming Sunday! Maybe all cleaners work that way, but I have never seen it...

01bluecls, as for the interior being gross, pics could not even touch on the true grossness that existed! Like you said, it was tough to sit in (we even joked about it). We did mention to the owner that the truck should go directly to the dealer on Monday before it gets that way again...he agreed. Thanks again guys!
