Ordering the Hitachi.

I ordered my Hitachi from UtterGuys. They sell stuff on eBay as well as having an online shop. I paid about $115 I believe for a brand new Hitachi sp18va. They don't always have it in stock though, even if it doesnt show on their webpage, you could try giving them a call. I didn't see it on their site but I called them up and they had a few in stock. This was months ago however. Great machine.

holly ***** that's cheap

If I found one for $115 I'd buy a second one.

Well I have looked and looked till I am tired of it! I just for the life of me can't figure out what they have up there sleeve in the tool world (Hitachi). Any company in the world would bend over backwards to be in this position, but evidently Hitachi thinks other wise.

I emailed them several weeks ago and was told the date they would be available at local distributors (also, no change in tool). Well that day has come and gone!! So has my enthusiasm for waiting and waiting to attain one. So I gave up and canceled orders. Enough is enough, I have been using a friends Makita, but I was tired of imposing on him (it's used in his job).

Spend an extra $50 or whatever more than you intended to and just get it over with... that's exactly what I did... paid $220 shipped from amazon.com for my makita... couldn't be happier... I know I "wasted" $50 more than I needed to, but I got it in 3 days after ordering and have been using it for a few weeks now... good luck bud

That is not the way I look at things.

I bought the Metabo delivered for $247.00 yesterday.

Good luck to you also, Changeling

The bottom line is that it wont matter how much money the machine costs as that alone won't make you a better rotary user. It matters more that the machine is comfortable for YOU.

If you're saying I look to spend more on things... I don't... I was simply stating that instead of going through 20 phone calls and 10 different distributors for the Hitachi, I decided to lose the $50 and get the Makita... You said you used the Makita before right? Please post some comparisons and photos if/when you can. I'm looking to try out the Metabo but just don't know if it'll be "for me" as everyone says...

Thanks and congrats on the pruchase

Lecchilo, ease up dude. I absolutely didn't mean that at all! I actually did the same as you did with the "Hitachi", I had orders all over the place just to be told again and again that they weren't available after I had orders in for days to a week or so. Some orders were with people I have did a lot of business with in the past.

It wasn't there fault, they simply couldn't get the Hitachi and were told exactly what they passed along to us. When I say I got tired, my meaning was in getting a Hitachi, I literally called or emailed everyone on the Internet, they are not to be had at this point. Though some individuals have said they received theres from companies I had orders in a week or more before they did, go figure!

Anyway, I bought the Metabo, or I should say I ordered it from allprotools.com.

I probably won't even get it before next week. I ordered a 6" LC backing plate and a "foam wool pad (to try)" from Top of the line. Now you know my current history.

Please keep in mind that my experience is long on reading and short on experience. When I get the Metabo and get a chance to use it, it will be on some practicing materials like old hoods, fenders, tractors, anything I can get hold of. I have no dreams of being an over night Rotary prodigy, I just want to learn to do it right. So, don't, expect to see an immaculate resurrection of some mess any time soon. It just doesn't happen that way, Experience is everything.

Haha no need to ease up man, I was simply saying I got tired of it as well and went ahead with the Makita.

Anyway, what is a "foam wool pad"? and do you have a link for it?

Good luck with the Metabo, and while I understand you can't learn much overnight, I was simply asking for some comparisons as far as motor, weight, size, etc...

Lecchilo:

I have a great interest in using wool pads because of some really experienced Autopians that have taken there time in explaining there attributes to me.

All you have to do is search on the subject "ID", like "foam wool pad" or whatever to see conversations concerning the product. A search on "Wool" and several hours reading will get you up to par, give it a go.:2thumbs:

just looked on the utterguys site, they sell it for $189.00...

I actually paid $119 + $15 for shipping for a brand new Hitachi so I guess the total was actually $134. I spoke to Anthony @ the time.
