Optimum Polish....what to do?

RTexasF

Pay Attention Boy...
I have used OP three different times and it just doesn't perform well for me. I love the long working time, the performance depending on the pads chosen (Cyclo), the nice finish, but I'm just plain disappointed in it as far as removing bad marring. I am very careful not to use too much product. Am I expecting too much from it? I have read where some folks mix Optimum Hyper Compound with the polish and seem to have the best of both worlds.....long working time, smooth finish, and removing the marks/marring/webs/whatever you care to call it.

I'm to the point where I'm either going to trade/sell/pitch the stuff or spring for the Hyper Compound and try the blend. I may have used one ounce of the OP total, if that.

Anyone with experience with these two care to offer some advice?

Today I did a red/burgundy Taurus using OP. I hit the same area twice, once with orange pads, the next with yellow. It barely touched the marks on the paint. I changed to fresh orange pads & broke out the Poorboys 2.5. Zing! The marks are 90% gone after one pass but you must deal with the dusting......not pleasant but it worked.
There's got to be a middle ground here somewhere....
Thoughts?

I was going to ask the same thing. I have tried it a few times and am not getting the results that I have hoped for either.

I'm sure that it is me and not the product, but it is frustrating none the less.

Had I not been detailing for 5+ years I would have thought the same----my fault, but I don't believe so. I'm no expert but I can damn sure work a product until it delivers the expected results.
OK there are two of us now that are baffled.

HEP US, HEP US. Anthony are you here?

I like using the Optimum line of polishes with the rotary. When I tried it on the PC they did have the long work-in time but it was a pain to remove because of all of the oils. I made a 'batch' of OHC and OP and it was a terrible time to work with it... but then I read that some people don't actually mix them, but use 1 bead of each per panel. When I do use them with the rotary they are great, but for PC (and I assume Cyclo too) there are better options, IMO.

I didn't state it very well. I meant "mixing" as in on the pads not in a bottle, sorry. I realize OP is made more for a rotary but good grief!

I was tring it by rotary with an orange lite cut pad and still had problems removing marring, I had the speed about 1500, if that counts for anything.

It isn't a problem, I made the mistake of actually mixing them in one bottle and didn't like it, imagine that- oops. The only time that I use OP is after OHC to clean up any holograms or light swirls that were left behind, so I'm not entirely positive how strong the OP actually is by itself.
