Optimum Hits A New First.....

Hmm, I do have to wonder if there's any real advantages to using a spray on polish instead of using the existing method of X's and O's on the pad.

As I noted early, I haven't had the best luck with the polishes yet. I spoke with Dr. G yesterday (great guy) and he is aware of the issues that I had, it seems some others had the same problems, but I have NO DOUBT that he will find the perfect solution to the problems.

Once the system is completely dialed in I personally think there are several advantages with extremely uniform and even distribution of the polish (and abrasives) across the entire pad surface being the main one.

Regardless it is extremely cool to see at least one company constantly striving to be at the forefront of detailing technology.

My initial thought is that a sprayer would be more tiring to use, especially if you're doing all three polishing steps in one day. Hand cramps and or tiring of the hand muscles. Not all of us are all that young anymore.:)

Regarding the comment about striving to be at the forefront I agree. There is absolutely nothing wrong with experimenting and trying new things. Lots of new product hits are generated this way and I do commend him for that.

very interesting. this would be a product that me and i am sure all of us would have loved to try before it was released.

Just ordered some from Autogeek. Any of the testers out there have any tips? (Scottwax, paging ya).

Spray it on the pad or on the paint? Any difference in working it than other polishes?

I used it on a C4S yesterday with superb results! White pad eliminated about 85% of the moderate swirls. Definitely quicker cutting. I did notice they cut back on the lubricating properties a tad, but still ample to polish with. That may have been a associated with some pad skipping as well, which did not occur with original Optimum Polishes. It also could have been the surfaces curvatures. (I even double checked my UDM's oscillation to be sure the shaft wasnt wearing out). Nonetheless, still manageable. Really impressed with the Hyper Polish. The sample was sent from Optimum, I assume its the released version?

I opted for spraying on the pad. You will use a bit more as compared to original Optimum. I used speed 6 for the whole process.

Nice work akapatrick. What was the condition of the paint before the polish?

BTW - drool on the porsche - very nice ride - I'm jealous of the owner of that one.

I'd spray it on the pad-spraying on the paint allows for the potential for more spatter as you try to pick it up with the RO motion.

Spray it on the pad from about 6-8" and it should cover the pad nicely. The polish has a long working time if needed and wipes cleanly off the paint. I've used it on glass (see the overspray Rover I did) and it wipes off glass quite well too, so it doesn't appear there is much in the way of oils that can potentially hide defects. Hyper Polish definitely has some cut, on softer black paints I have seen it leave behind some minor hazing when used with a 5.5" cutting pad. You should be fine with a polishing pad though.

I see the polish for sale, kinda pricey I might add. Maybe when the whole line is released, the price will drop to M105/205 levels.

You should get more uses per ounce of product, the 17 oz sample bottle I got seems to last forever.

just order some optimum polish spray , i will test it next week.

being base of polymers does it need ipa wipe down , or any dawn wash before lps?

It wipes cleanly off glass, which is a good sign but no harm doing a wipe down just to make sure what you want to remove is removed. Don't know that it is vital to wipe down or rewash to enhance the bonding of sealants. Anthony would probably know better than I do in that regard.
