Opinions on the new 04' Civic

It's not really new-new. It adds some nice touches that make it a little better than last years. The interior is a bit of an improvement. I like the new front end too. I would get a mazda 3 though, I like them a little more.

You know they are not to bad of a car. They drive/ride good and will last forever. I am not to big on the looks, they look good but not great just so-so to me. As Corey Bit Spank said the front looks good but I still like something to stand out a little more. I guess I am not to practical when it comes to vehicles, just look what I am driving about as unpractical as you can get.

The one I do like they are a little more of the green stuff but based on the same platform as the accord, the Acura TL that is a good looking car with some impressive features to go with it. For $33,000 you can't beat it in the price range.

Just on persons opinion.

i have on 03 4dr civic. its a nice car, back seat is kinda tight. the flat foor helps. the trunk is a good size, and the motor has a lot of plastic coverings so its looks good if 303 every month:eek: car is not fast or doesnt have much power, the 5spd helps. i dont drive it like a lunatic because frankly if i wanted a fast car, i wouldn't of got a 4dr civic.its definelty a keeper, cheap to maintain, good on gas, and we be put to beater duty when i finally get my mustang.that will have to wait, got to move out first:D

I was looking at one parked on the street and was really impressed by it. The new look is really nice. If I were in the market for a compact car, I'd probably get the Mazda 3 or a Toyota Corolla. They seem a bit more luxurious than the Civic.

I saw this one on the road, and it looked alot better than the previous model. I also like this new dark graphite color.

It's okay - a nicely engineered, safe car with good ergonomics, but it shows its age. There's some new competition you should consider, including the Hyundai Elantra ($4000 less) or the Mazda 3 (more sophistication), both which may suit you better depending on your needs. The Elantra isn't as high tech, but it's more comfortable, easy to drive, and practical. The 3 is European flavored with trendy styling and sport-biased driving dynamics, but it's on the expensive side.

For a beater, commuter, or college car, these are great cars, gas efficient and reliable. They are pretty slow; the 5 speed helps a tiny bit. I got an 03 Civic when the 04's were about to come out because I saved bunch of money. They are identical, except for a different front end treatment, rear bumper, and different alloy wheels.

If you are looking for an economy car, i would just get the cheaper more reliable Civic. If you want more power or sport, don't shop for an economy car.

A Civic is a Civic...you'll get great reliability and gas mileage at an affordable price and that's about it. Its all they're designed for.

It aint that great compared to last year or my 2002 ex 5 spd coupe. Just changed the front end, rims, and dash. The center console isn't moveable either like my 2002 ex. But, its a honda, and its a good quality car. Only complaint i have is the damn clutch pedal skeak that never stops(radio solves that) and I wish the suspension was all double wishbone like the 6th gen civics.

oh, btw, my ex gets about 34-35 in the winter, and sometimes 37-39 in the summer(on syn oil), so its definitely a great car for economy, but its only a fun car if you get the 5 spd.

at the time i bought my civic, it was the best deal. 5 spd was a must being that my last was an integra(which i lost in a hit and run accident) the elantra is a nice looking car, but i worry bout resale value. the mazda 3 wasnt out yet, for some reason though i expect the starting target price will climb on that car. mazda says they will start at 14,200 but i see them going to 16k imo.i didnt like the corolla, but that is a solidly built car. i test drove the protege but the clutch or the shifting was not to my liking. i actually wanted the protege 5 but couldnt cough up so much. i really like the protege 5--- the civic si i didnt even look at....not a big fan, and afraid that soon those si will be stolen.

I realize that many of you guys have cars much nicer than my 2000 Civic SI, but for less than $17 K, it handles nicely, does 0-60 in about 7.3 seconds (this was reasonably impressive in 2000, I'm amazed at how cars are getting significantly faster and faster from year to year, it's a good thing, that speed stuff), and will last forever. To suggest that the Civic is merely a practical econo-car is not entirely accurate, and, if they ever come out with a Type R in the US, it might give you a run for your significant money. Just my opinion...

I'd get a Mazda 3, hands down. Honda has lost its way.

My wife had a 2001 Civic LX, we sold it after just 2 years. Yes, it was totally reliable and got great gas mileage. But it was Boring (notice the capital B)!

They dumbed down the rear suspension, jacked the car up, deleted ABS (or even rear rotor brakes), and put a horrible set of skinny tires on it for low confidence in highway driving.

A big thumbs down. Honda used to be about light, low, sporty, reliable, and cheap. The sporty side made them better driver's cars than Toyota. Now they are just reliable appliances.

You can argue all you want about EX or Si versions, but I still say they lost their way. My wife bought a MINI Cooper S, and loves it. Perhaps it is the counterpart to the classic old CRX, a car they wouldn't dream of making today.

my roomie has a LX 5 sp 01. When you dont have 4 full grown college kids in it, its pretty peppy. LOL. I like it cause its cheap, reliable, and practical. Plus with 1 person in the car those tires break loose soooooo easily!!! Definitly not the best looking car out there, but one of the more practical ones. I like that sentra....

The editors of Edmunds.com chose the Mazda 3 over the Civic. Don't really know which one is faster or which one handles better, but it looks like you can get more stuff on the Mazda 3 such as HIDs, leather, 17" rims, and side skirts.

Gotta agree with you on that!! (ok... I"m biased)

To get back on topic, I really like the 04 Civic. Little improvements here and there make it more polished than 03 and there are *so* many mods for Civics.

Also, you can beat on a Civic's engine all you want and it'll just keep asking for more. :D

I agree with you there. Honda laid a major egg with its 2001 models. Hit a small dip on the road and your whole body lifts from the seat. The rear suspension has got to be the absolute worst I've ever driven. To be fair though, the 2003 models seem to have improved substantially, but it's still got to be the most boring car on the road. I would take the Mazda in a heartbeat.

I've changed my mind after four months. The '05 Focus is a better choice than both the Mazda3 and Civic. With the 2.3, it's considerably cheaper and more powerful than most of its competitors, and the updated interior and exterior look fantastic. I believe the 3 doesn't have the "true" independent suspension of the Focus... it's replaced with a tinny feeling one. Also, the 3 supposedly provides a sterile driving experience compared to the old Protege and Focus.
