Odor

I was asked by two different people who purchased older cars with smelly interiors, how to get rid of the smell.

I told both of them to take the car to a professional to have an ozone treatment, or buy a new interior. Both have attempted to clean the cars, and neither want to spend the money on the ozone treatment. I have seen or smelled either car, I am not sure I want to either.

Any inexpensive methods to remove the smells. Sprays, cleaners, deodorizers?

A little background:

One car smells like popurai<sp>, cigar, men's and womens collenge and pet smells. Also, the smell of cleanse-all, the cleaner used to attempt to sanitize.

The other has a smell of garbage and urine, with vanilla air fresgner spray smell.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hmmmmmmmmm...if very serious how about removing the carpet and then cleaning with some good strong stuff...maybe even a steam cleaner or something.....Let it dry and check for smells....continue until smells gone....

You might even want to replace the padding if it soaked up the smells.

OR

Try some carpet cleaners as it sits in the cars now.

Ozone is is the only way. You have to realize that when a smell raveges the interior of a vehicle, it is usually in the vents , the door panels, the headliner etc....ozone and ozone only will take care of this situation good luck

They do sell Ozone generator machines....I have used one to rid my old truck of SHRIMP juice smells and it worked within a few hours.....Look in Marine stores like West or any local one.

You can pick up your own Ozone machine that you can use later in your house. There are many different sizes. I believe you can get one for under $400.00.

You will also want to steam clean the carpets to ensure that you get as much of the dirt and bacteria out of the carpets and pads as you can. Than use the Ozone machines. They do work great. Had a friend that had a house fire and he had all his furniture put into an Ozone room. That took care of the smell. Good as new.

Of cousre new carpets and pads will take care of the smell from the carpets and pads, but the smell will also be in the head liner and the seats and the vents. To get it all an Ozone machine would be the best way.

Good Luck.
