OCW........Wow!

No, I don't. Please don't post something like that if you aren't 100% certain you've seen me post it and have the thread right in front of you.

No offense. I said " I think". I didn't say you did 100%

Peace

You missed the point.

When it comes to something like that you shouldn't say that you "think" it. You should be sure, and preferably post a link.

If Scott had not made it back to this thread, people would have ASSumed that he actually diluted OCW because of your post, and it would have been wrong.

Scottwax,

How does OCW look on black cars? Is there a better combination or would OCW work just fine? Going to place an order of products for spring and was wondering what you would recommend. Thanks,

MTO

OCW (current version) x 3, applied after each wash over a period of 6 weeks:

OCW looks as good as Souveran or Fuzion on black, IMO.

Your main focus should be on paint prep IMO. Anything is going to look fantastic on swirl-free black paint that's been polished properly. OCW does look very nice for a spray wax, as Scottwax said it's quite deep and wet...but the main thing is always prep!

Understanding that AW seems to be more of a sealant than a wax, how do you guys (guys who've used AW and OCW) compare protection/durability between OCW and AW?

Aquawax is way easier to use (much like a true QD, wipe and it's gone), but does not last nearly as long as OCW. As far as looks, both make my paint look great. But for something more durable, I'd look into OCW.

I would definitely not use Aquawax as a standalone LSP, whereas OCW would certainly be a candidate for such a task. I use Aquawax more for maintaining my finish after each wash. Also, it can't hurt to just use both :D :wavey

Does OCW dry (after a haze and wipe) clear similar to NXT and Klasse AIO/SG? Or does it leave a chalky residue in the spots that you may have missed like EX-P?

I have EX-P and use it because I don't have a garage for hot summer days. I just hate how I always find chalky residue a few days to a week later.

No, OCW does not leave any chalky residue. It's quite simple once you understand how to use it. Spray, spread with 1 towel, wipe dry with the other and move on.

OCW works EXACTLY like that. I've never had to go over an area with another towel.

One trigger pull for a typical panel (door, fender) 2-3 max for a hood, roof.

I went out to the garage with a new bottle of OCW and 2 fresh edgeless arctic white microfibers and did a little experiment, so people can get an idea of how easy this stuff is to use.

My bottle of OCW:

2 spritzes to this section of the hood:

This is after the first pass with the towel:

2nd pass:

after the 3rd and 4th pass:

As you can see, after 4 passes some slight streaking is still present. At this point, I flipped the towel to a clean side and buffed the area and the finish turned out perfect.

There was also an open bottle of Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax a couple feet away, so I decided to try it on the other half of the hood with another fresh towel and get some pics of the same test.

2 mists on this section (harder to see because the Meguiar's sprayer is a VERY fine mist)

spraywax_009.jpg

First wipe:

2nd:

After the 3rd and 4th...some VERY minor streaking was still present, but hard to see in the picture.

Flipped the towel to a clean side, buffed again.

I just wanted to add that after speaking with Mike Phillips, the best protection from Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax (and most other spray waxes) will come from spreading the wax, allowing it some time to dry, THEN buffing it off. This is not to say that you won't get good results from spraying and wiping, but Mike informed me that the protection will be maximized by allowing it to dry before buffing. :wavey

Optimum spray wax is actually one of the first wipe on no buffing type products, even before Opti-Seal and others.

One should be able to spray OCW on a panel and wipe it in until it all evaporates. This occurs after the initial wipe in and you begin the buffing process. If you turn the towel over to soon or begin buffing too soon with your second towel you may get some streaking so wipe or work it in well until almost gone with one side or one towel. Then buff that area out with the flip side or your second towel.

Apply it on a cool surface, don't use too much and when your application towel gets overly wet switch to a new one. If using on a warmer surface then apply it to the towel first then yur paint.

Scott,

Thanks for the quick response. Black looks awesome, nice job on the vette. My car is a 2007 (BMW paint job) and the paint is in very good shape but after a Northeast winter I will need to prep the paint this spring before using OCW. I have a porter cable but would not want to use anything aggressive on the paint. What polish and pad would you recommend before using the OCW as a last step? Something that will take care of any minor swirls that would be "idiot" proof. Last thing I want to do is mess up the paint. Thanks again for the feedback. Another two months of winter.

There is no way for me to properly answer this without the car sitting right in front of me and even then I might have to try a couple different pads and polishes to know what will work.

I'd start with Meguiars #205 or Optimum Polish with a polishing pad. Go up in aggressiveness as needed.
