NXT is Meguiar's most durable??!!`

dont get me wrong, I dont hate Megs, they are a great company and like I said they have a lot of great products. I just didnt like what happened with NXT. I dont like sneaky people and there was a lot of sneak with NXT. I dont think they needed to be dishonest, they are the Industry Goliath. They arent Acrylic Werks after all, why stoop to that level to get a new product out?

I havent bought any of their products since but keep in mind its 22F here...... Im sure I will get some of that replacement for Final Detail come springtime

Final thought: Meg's has a whole theory/issue/mentality of beading water from their waxes and LSP's. I believe that the 'lab people' have done all they can so that water wont bead on your paint...theory being that this could lead to more damage when drying (in the sun etc)...who knows. [/B][/QUOTE]

The problem I was running into was that it was not only not beading, but it wasn't sheeting either. My hood & trunk were draped in an entire sheet of water collecting all types of crap on top of it. Call me ignorant if you want, but I just don't think a site like that will make anybody think their car is still being protected.

That being said, I'll probably give NXT another try since I'm thinking it's probably the Zymol carwash that's the culprit.

My final thought: Please don't let this thread become a "I hate NXT and Meguiar's in general" thread. I myself love Meguiar's products, especially #26 & new Gold Class. I just happen to suspect that NXT is not all that it was hyped up to be.:)

I don't think anyone was intentionally dishonest. Mike Phillips just didn't have all the information on NXT prior to its introduction. He honestly believed NXT was a pure LSP without cleaning ability (beyond any solvent carriers) and once questions began to arise, he was able to confirm that NXT did indeed have specialized cleaners to promote adhesion.

You can have righteous indignation over the hype because Mike was really excited about the introduction of NXT but he didn't intentionally deceive anyone.

I've had pretty good results with NXT myself. It works very well with both #80 and Klasse AIO. In fact, on my own car, I'll probably go back to NXT with either #16 or Souveran for my late spring cleanup.

I don't know why some people are getting poor durability, but I think the majority of people would say it does have a great look.

I thought it looked good too, but I thought it looked even better after I topped it off with the 3M Paste Wax. Would this make me a carnauba kind of guy?

Also, Scottwax, if you please, read my first posting and give me your thoughts. Would love to get your input on my situation.:)

It's gotta be the Zymol carwash!!!!!!!!:angry

I use megs products (polishes and waxes) NXT included. The NXT range that I've tried IMO is not as good as Mothers equivalent.

Having said that, I totally disagree with the above statement. Mike Phillips is a straight-up guy...sincere enthusiasm (justified or not) is not the same as being sneaky. :nono

I personally haven't bought a Meguairs product since NXT.

They make great stuff if you know what to buy but I still have a bad taste in my mouth over the hype and BS around the introduction of this product. For anyone to claim it wasnt hyped here on Autotopia blows my mind.

I personally lost respect for people over it. Marketing is fair game, im not that naive but some people crossed the line between company people and company schills on this product.

Prepare to be labeled as a basher and troublemaker. In any event, your post summed up my feelings on the subject. It's a shame the NXT debacle was allowed to occur here, unchecked. It's the only case I can remember where blatent product hyping by a company rep was allowed to take place, and to this day I still can't figure out why.

I would not label FalconGuy as a basher or troublemaker. He has a right to express a dissenting or opposite view (we all do), as long as it's done with tact.

IMO, he's simply mistaken. There's a difference.

But that's just my opinion.

I might get crap for this, but I still think NXT is an excellent OTC product. I ahve used it on several cars over the last year and had ONLY ONE car that it didnt make past 2-3 months. The other 3 or 4 cars I used it on, beading/sheeting lasted 3-4 months+. All the cars I used NXT on sit outside 24/7 and are never Qd'ed, in fact most of those cars I did, frequent the auto wash. If not the durability, the swirl hiding capability and the intial appearance is why I still use it to this day.

for those who think NXT was overhyped- did the hype work? all the hype in the world won't make customers buy a product a second time-if the product is good it will stand on its own-the varying durability claims is odd tho

Without knowing about the enviromental conditions you face in your area (acid rain, industrial fallout), it is hard to say for certain one single factor, like the car wash you are using is the problem. Try something else and if it works you will know for sure.

I top NXT with #16 and Souveran to get even more depth. I like NXT alone on a lot of colors (metallics) but I like it even better topped with carnauba on black.

I have a feeling it won't happen again. Personally, I like NXT and Mike Phillips is a good person who is passionate about his company and I consider him a friend. Looking back though, I do agree NXT got a ton of attention early on and Mike didn't know everything he needed about NXT's properties. I think he learned from that because Meguiars new professional sealant (#21, I think) had receive little comment by him here.

I would also agree that Anthony Orosco and I jumped the gun a bit on Shokar too but we both believed the product was going to be released. I know I really like it and am disappointed it won't be coming out after all.

the downside to the NXT debacle is that Mike Phillps is less likely to post replies here for fear of creating controversy-consequently questions don't get answered-and other manufacturers are less likely to waste their time on a board that won't allow them to answer potential customers questions

I get excellent results from NXT too. My car has been through the rainstorms of So Cal and the shine is still there (underneath the grime - I had to QD some bird poop off). Last time it rained the water was still beading and this is after 5-6 months.

I personally could care less what others think of NXT, all that matters is that it works for me and I'm happy with the product. I can't wait to try the paste.

amen brotha

Ive always had good durability with NXT. On my own car I never let it go for more than a month, but I let my brother use it on his truck which is never garaged and washed every 4 weeks I'd say.. He put one coat on in June and it beaded water until well through October before I noticed water just pooling up on the hood.

I've never had it wear off in a week or two.

I love NXT. The sheer ease of use is certainly a deciding factor on its placement in my regimen. It is very forgiving, can be bought locally, hides swirls, and has a number of other products in the same NXT line that can all be used together without having to question whether this will work with that or vice versa. Got dust? Speed Detailer. Been a while since an application? Spray Wax. Admiring your car on Sunday afternoon? Spend an hour and refresh the coat of wax. Bored on a Sunday evening? Wash it with NXT wash. I love the stuff.

Let me get this straight, Mike didnt know the properties of this product? We are talking about the same Lab Sample D arent we?

This is the same product he was here talking about, the one he claimed to be working with to develop with the Chemists?

Now if your telling me the head instructor for megs cant figure out there are cleaners in a product, something we all figured out within 2hours of its release what does that tell ya?

He showed us pics, he WAS working with the product or at least thats what he told us?

Im ok with getting flamed for my opinion but lets not rewrite history.

If I had time I would go back and find the quote from the guy who got the first bottle of NXT from Barry Megs himself. He paid a heck of a price for it based on Mikes claims. The day he used it he was all raves, the next wash he followed up and said what a lot of people are saying.

No offense to Mike personally, im sure he is a great guy, I bet I would love to meet him and get some of his knowledge about paint. In this case however he decieved us all and I stand by that statement.

I will never again view the introduction of a new product without thinking of the whole NXT debacle.
