NXT is Meguiar's most durable??!!`

Its funny everyone that everyone seems to like #16 better than NXT. I have tried #16 on my car one time. First, I thought it is a was a PITA to buff off, or course I think I applied to thick. Second I didnt like the #16 "look", I actually LOVE the NXT look, just wish the appearance would last a tad bit longer. The absolute best thing I love NXT for is its ease of use. Apply too much and you dont have to suffer your arms trying to buff it off.

Different strokes for different folks!

I give NXT a thumbs up across the board, and I will continue to use it.

If I remember correctly, Mike was an advocate against making durability claims because of all the variables involved.

New England winters

Florida humid salt filled air

Texas heat

Canadian cold

Midwestern acid rain

California smog and early morning coastal fog

Pacific Northwestern constant precipitation (this year an exception :( )

Etc, etc

Just a few of the variables that will effect durability. Of course some products are more tolerant to these conditions than others.:nixweiss

I agree w/ most comments here...

If YOU fell for the "hype" (whatever that was ((i dont care))

then YOU only have YOU to blame...dont displace this on to Meguiars for a minor mixup.

I remember when NXT was intoduced, I sat back quietly waiting for results (i didnt get excited nor pumped...that way I guess i didnt set myself up for a dissapointment?!?!)

So if you give out your BANK ACCOUNT info to some phony Nigerian Bank, inorder to get a 'promised large sum of money' later, then get burnt, You gonna sit around and blame the scam artists, or your bank....NO its you stupid.

^maybe a bad analogy but same principals.

(insert picture of me washing my hands of this!!!)

For me the product is good :nixweiss

For whoever started this thread, i would be interested if you would apply NXT again, but goto Target and get some GC wash, or Wally World for NXT.

Lets see if we can sort out this one incident. Like you i am in Florida, and i am almost amazed that this over the counter product works so well for me :woot:

This is why it will get my repeat business:

Too easy to use

Smells pleasant

Easily obtainable

Durability will get me to 3++ months, if i let it go.

Looks great

(fills swirls isnt really an issue for me, but if i did a buddies car, i would use NXT because of this)

And cost.

What more is there??

I started this thread, but I had no idea I would be opening Pandora's Box. I'll probably try it again, since I still have it. I'll definitely use GC wash next time just to make sure. As for your reasons for getting it again, you could say the same about GC. As a matter of fact, I like the smell of GC even better. It's also cheaper to boot. Actually, your last statement is a great idea. I have a sister-in-law that always asks me to wax her car whenever she visits. I'm sure the swirl-hiding capabilities will come in handy.:)

termigator- Back to your original concern, IMO switching shampoos will make a huge difference. I've never really used NXT (just played around with it some) but I *have* used the 3m Showcar Paste quite a bit. It lasted a lot longer for me than it did for you. Not #16-long, but good for a carnauba. See how the GC soap works.

The point is, comparing a pure non-cleaning sealant's ability to remove tar is not comparable to the use of abrasives nor does it justify a product's admission into the non-abrasive club of protectants.

My point is that Mike probably mistook any cleaning ability of NXT during testing to be the same as any other LSP similarly unintended cleaning ability.

On well prepped surfaces you really aren't going to notice the cleaning ability anyway and since he did the majority of his applications by machine (which has an inherent cleaning ability depending on the pad) he probably assumed any cleaning or polishing affect was the pad and not the product.

He screwed up by not finding out all information about the product and he learned from it. He didn't list any attributes to #21 until he was fully informed on the product. I wish he had known all the facts about NXT and let us know prior to the release of NXT and a lot of the criticism would have been avoided.

Live and learn. :)

I honestly did not realize what a volatile issue this was. I think I'm going to have to do the combo again and NOT use the Zymol wash just to see what happens. Or, I might just do two coats of NXT and then just wait n' see. At this point, I have serious reservations on reporting back my results on the forum for fear of starting another thread like this.:o

You know, this is really getting silly. Was there hype? I'm sure, Mike Phillips is a Meguiar's zealot, PLUS he works there. There are plenty of zealots on here, Zaino, Klasse, NXT.

There are plenty of people here who have less than optimal experiences with ALL products, SOME of the time. For example, I have an old car, and bought some new products...I wanted to try them out. I taped off a couple of squares on my hood, about a foot square. I think I had used some GC that I was trying to use up on the hood, but it wasn't too fresh.

So I prepped both squares by hand, one with Poorboy's PP followed by EX-P, and the other AIO followed by SGx2. The Poorboy's square was initially much better than the Klasse, all spiderwebbing removed, slicker, etc. You could actually see the Pb's square after the tape was removed. After some rain in a couple of days, the EX-P slickness was gone. I still had the expectation that my little square of Klasse would be beading and apparent in the rain...but after less than a month...my test squares were exactly the same as the rest of the hood.

Do I think Klasse sucks? No. Do I think there is hype and conspiracy here on Autopia about Klasse? No. This isn't controlled laboratory testing. If I tell you that I did my AIO prep correctly, how do you know if I did it the same way as you? That I used the same amount of product, pressed as hard, etc.?

A couple of final thoughts...if any of you expect Mike Phillips, or any other factory rep to be just "one of the guys" when he's in here forget that. Maybe some of you folks that have been here longer than I will disagree, but I have never heard Mike Phillips recommend anything other than Meguiar's...even if Meg's doesn't make a product in the class you are looking for. And I don't blame him; if I was on the internet sending people to another polish company I don't think my boss would look on it too kindly. And lastly, as Bill D. says...it's only wax and polish! Do you guys get your shorts in a bunch when Coke says it's better than Pepsi? Sheesh.

Fantastic post Mike!! :xyxthumbs

I've used a lot of NXT since it's introduction...I like it. It's easy to use and provides a very unique look on dark colors (solid reds are my favorite color for it). I will get about 60-90 days out of it depending on how the vehicle is used and stored. For an OTC product NXT really does all I expect of it and more.

"There are plenty of people here who have less than optimal experiences with ALL products, SOME of the time."

How true SETEC ! Sometimes it seems to be karmic..... Most times it turns out to be incorrect or inadequate PREP. One thing that facinates me is the evolution of these products. Z2Pro is Z's response to challenges to Z's established products reputation and ranking. (is this off topic?) As time goes on, I am sure someone will come out with something competitive. Nxt is great to me because durability is no issue. I never leave anything alone long enough to see any change. So this entire thread is humorous to me. I guess this is a very subjective hobby. We all see things according to our own expectations. Some like to get the initial result, and try something new, some are satisfied at some point and want the detail to last forever ;) NXT is "up there" appearance wise, but others rule on durability.... different strokes. The arguments are interesting because they bring out opinions concerning products that otherwise might not be voiced.... There sure is a lot of passion about waxes and polishes.... Maybe its the love your rides expressed through the products you use... I hope you all continue to express yourselves.... it makes things lively and educational. exposure to other viewpoints cant be bad....:bounce

I like a little cleaner with my wax. At the end of November I used AIOx1 and SG x2 on my car.At the begining of January I put on a coat of WG. My car sits outside 24/7 but gets washed 2 to 3 times per week and most of the time I follow the wash with QD. Yesterday I tried the new Reflevtions on my car , since its a cleaner wax , you should see the dirt that came out of the paint. In November I also clayed the car.

technically i don't think Reflections is strong enough to be a cleaner wax(like Colorx)-my understanding is that it has mild cleaners like NXT for proper bonding-as far as the specialized cleaners go its the layering nuts(5-75 layers) that complain most

That's a very valid point. :up

Reflections has a decent amount of cleaning ability but not like the true cleaner waxes. I don't think it has enough to remove itself entirely...it will leave more protection than it removes.

For the 'layering nuts' there's Reflections Top Coat which has no cleaners.

I've used NXT for a year and I still love the product - I can get 60 days out of it here in NY but the durability issue seems to be a moot point here considering most of us are outside on every nice weekend for a wash 'n wax.

NXT liquid still gets a big thumbs up in my book - it goes on and off very easily, leaves no residue, smells great and is a fantastic choice for dark metallics. My Claret Mica RX-7 really pops after NXT! It hides minor swirls fairly well...I also just used it on my brand new HFP EP civic hatch which is silver. Even on a light car, I was pleased - the metallics really stand out.

As I said, I can get 60 days out of it - water still beads at that point and some slickness is still there after a wash. However, after the first rainstorm, most of NXT's initial slickness is gone. I do notice a big improvement in slickness and gloss if I layer one more coat 24 hours after the first coat.
