NXT durability- bah!

a.k.a. Patrick,

It is sad to say but, I don't think many here are at all interested in why we are seeing this wide difference in results. I got flamed for even daring to ask those who have had problems with it to post details of their prep and maintenance.

Personally as a newbie to Autopia I welcome critique. I washed, Clayed, AIO'd then NXT'd a Black Accord. Lasted 1 week and squeaked to high heaven whe I ran my finger over it.

Prior to next I use AIO topped with P21s ... I sed P21S as my QD about every two weeks

I wonder if the problem here could be that "little bit" of carnauba in AIO??

Meguiars typically makes their products to be compatible with each other so it should be able to go over carnauba just fine.

I think the only real way to make sure nothing else is affecting it is to use it as a one-step over clean, bare paint and avoid quick detailers and the spray wax. This is they way I applied it and I had pretty good luck. I would be very curious to see someone who has had problems with NXT try the same one-step application method as I used and see if their results improve.

While this is true, my wife's car is held up just fine for that week that the test panel was just NXT. Under NXT was 83 and 80 both Meg's products. Im just wondering if this could have anything at all to do with it. Maybe it's compatible with Meg's stuff and not the others?:nixweiss

This is actually the process that I've been doing with a PC with much success. I find AIo & NXT to be a great combo.

I use NXT and like it...Maybe the difference is not in the prep before the NXT, but how is it treated on a daily basis.

I CCD and either S&W of use Quikshine everyday.

The finish on my red Mazda Pro 5 is slick about four weeks since last NXT. The shine is awesome. Surface looks very wet.

Do you folks think that the S&W or Quikshine adds to the slickness? Does it help the NXT last longer?

The car is gargaged at night. Never rains here in New Mexico...mostly I have to deal with dust problems.

I wash maybe monthly with QEW, exclusivly.

I used to work as a Lab Tech in a water lab. Testing, to be accurate must follow the same method every time. There is no way for all of us to compare a product to each other while we all use different methods.

I like to read this forum and then try the products for myself. I it works for me, the way I "do it", I use it. If not, I put it to the back of the shelf.

I've used NXT as a one step and over #9, AIO and Vanilla Moose and never had durability problems. I got 4 months of beading, smooth but not necessarily slick with a white Civic (daily driver, washed once or twice a month) using VM/NXT and it has been nearly 5 months since I applied AIO/NXT on a single stage white Honda Accord and not only is that car still beading and noticably slick, but the appearance is holding up very well. BTW, the Accord is daily driven by a high school girl who works for her Dad now, so since mid March, I have been QEW washing it every 2 weeks.

I have no good explaination why some of us are having great results with NXT and other's aren't. Believe me, if I didn't have confidence in the durability being at least 3 months, I wouldn't use it on customer's cars.

Scott, how old is that Honda ? Maybe theres still natural oils remaining in the paint ?

It is a 99. First time I detailed it, the paint was slightly chalky. Some shine but obviously a bit oxidized. Polished it out with DACP on the horizontal panels, the Swirl Free over the whole car, Vanilla Moose and S100 (probably early October) then AIO/NXT in late January.

Good grief! Me and my big mouth. I certainly didn't intend to cause such a firestorm by posting my experience with NXT. I merely intended to relate that experience and actually was hoping for some kind of answer to the problem, because as I said, the look that NXT gives me is the best I've ever gotten. If I'm doing something incorrectly in using NXT, I'd sure like to know what it is. I've tried it both as a one step and over Vanilla Moose on my cars and the results always seem the same with a seemingly total loss of NXT's slickness and shine after a very short time. I've tried to follow the directions given with NXT with each application to make sure of my methods. I certainly wasn't trying to convince anyone using NXT not to use it, or dispute the fact that some folks are seeming to not have the problems that I've been having. For all I know, NXT may be the greatest and I might be doing something that has worked for me in the past but is not working with this product. Every one is entitled to their own opinions and honestly, my inability to make a car wax last as long as I'd like is not an earth shaking problem as far as I'm concerned. I've just been cursed with a desire to make things work like I feel they should, I guess. Like they say, Different strokes for different folks!

I see it as much more. I see it as the rightful study of a company, who has hired a now-highly-regarded rep, who gave us nothing other than the now famous "Lab Sample D." If Meguiar's, Mike Phillips, whatever, had been different at first, I doubt this thread would have existed.

Mike is good friend of mine; I have yet to meet anyone that is more genuine.

If you like or dislike a Meguiar's product, that is your right. But I really find it rather disturbing the behavior and personal attacks on character some of you are displaying.

Let's remember to keep things in perspective... for goodness sakes, we're talking about a frigging car wax! If we're knocking on our fellow Autopians, maybe we've gone too far.
