Once i put Nu Finish on my car and i think it really sucks now. How do i remove this? Ihave Zaino polish for swirl marks and gloss enhabcer ordered already.

There are a couple ways. You could wash with Dawn like Zaino recommends. You could clay it and see if that cleans it off. You could use a paint cleaner product like one from Meguiar's. I don't know if Zaino has a paint cleaner in their product list, but if they do then I'd try that. I would think that the Dawn wash and clay should take care of it though.

How long ago did you apply the NuFinish? It's pretty tough stuff and will last several months.

If its been 6 months or so the NuFinish is gone so no worries.

At any rate, if you are using Zaino you will need to polish the paint first to remove swirls, oxidation, etc. The polish will take off any remaining NuFinish.

BTW, do not expect Z5 to remove or fill in swirls. It simply doesn't work like that regardless of what Zaino says. You will need to polish out the swirls, wash the car, Z5 then Z2. If you are expecting Z5 to replace a true polish, plan on disappointment.

Its been 6 months now. After looking around iam thinking of either using Meguiar's products or Klasse or Zymol. Just out of curiosity, which one would you guys use for polishing?

If the swirls are not too bad, use #9. If there are some bad swirls, you'll have to start with a fine cut cleaner (#2 I think) or DACP. I hope you have a PC. If not, you're going to be working on this for a couple of days. :(

Wow this dawn thing seems to never go away. Dawn is used as a degreaser to clean the surface, that's it.

NuFinish is a strong bonding sealant so the only ways to remove it is by polishing. You can try a 50/50 IPA/Water mix and spray, wait 30 seconds and wipe and see if that helps.

Any SMR will remove it easily.

That depends on what you mean by 'polishing'. Are you looking to do some swirl removing or just protecting? It also depends on what products you mean when you mention Zymol. Some things you can get locally and others you'll have to order. Do you have any problem with ordering online?

Yup, dawn has been given mystical powers on this board.

I didn't say that Dawn would remove it. I just said that it is what Zaino recommends before using their product. I'm not going to dispense advice assuming that they have a machine and can just hit it with some DACP and fix their problems. I was trying to suggest things that didn't require a machine and would be moderatly effective. The use of Dawn has been a detailer trick for a long time. Say what you will about it, but I believe it helps when begining a detail on a car that hasn't been cared for in awhile. I don't have any proof other than my own experience to offer there. We aren't going to turn this thread into a Dawn debate though. Start a new one if you want to debate with someone.

Jeez, Anthony, don't get so defensive. No one is starting a debate about Dawn. Its a product that has its place in the detailing process but may not help the original poster in removing NuFinish.

With all due respect your first recommendation was to use Dawn when he asked what to use to remove NuFinish. I agree with the others that it was the wrong thing to suggest. You didn't put it into context in your first post so you should not have been surprised at the responses.

No harm done, the guy's car hasn't exploded or had its paint fall off. Everything is cool.............

I'm not being defensive. If I was being defensive then there would have been lightning and thunder and the forum would have rocked. :grrr :LOLOL So anyway... maybe dawn wasn't such a good suggestion. My first thought was to suggest goat urine but I figured that Dawn was going to be easier to find. ;) So skip the dawn and go for whatever else will get it off. After 6 months it won't matter anyway, like was already said.

As you can see, its my 5th post here. This is what iam thinking of doing:

On a hot sunny day:

1) Clean my car with water and use Magruires Shampoo

2) Dry it with a good soft cloth

3) Use some "polish" to polish the surface (dont know what to use, i know i dont like turtle wax)

4) Remove polish

5) Clean rims and then tires

Next week:

Instead of step 3, use Zaino for swril marks and gloss enhancer.

Could someone say if my cleaing sequence is good or bad and pls correct it?

Iam very much enthusiastic to learn how to do a good job.

Thanks

The first piece of information you need is: What condition is your paint in? How much swirling, if any, does it have? Does is suffer from any oxidation/waterspots? That's what helps you decide what kind of polish you'd need. Klasse and Zymol don't sell polishes of any great strength, only protecting products and the prep they suggest before using them. Meguiar's and 3M sell the polishes and compounds you'll need for any significant correction.

I can't really tell if that's just camera glare, but it looks like there may be some moderate swirling or buffer marks on your C-pillar (rear)?

Polish: usually implies abrasive product to fix paint. Meguiar's and some other companies use this word in confusing ways to mean other products (glaze, wax, sealant, etc)

EDIT: due to my slow typing skillz  it seems that I've been left behind again!

I suggest you download the Autopia eBook if you haven't already. It gives good advice on how to properly wash your car, and gives some of the basics of detailing. It also gives some popular product suggestions.

The terms wax, sealant, glaze, polish, cleaner, compound, etc all get confusing and mixed up with the funny naming different companies give, but you just have to know what product does what and what it really is most of all.

If you polish (with a real "polish") before using Zaino you won't have to worry about removing the Nufinish separately.

I think that takes the cake for the worst butchering of "Meguiar's" I have seen on this board!

Then this one comes along.

No offense ///S320, but how did you get Nu Finish to look like that?

I went home after work last night and quickly washed my truck and slapped on a coat of Nu-Finish on a side of the truck that has not been touched in a couple of months and it came out like this.

Even without any surface prep and months worth of swirls, it didn't come out like your car.:nixweiss

Anyway, have fun working on your car. I know these guys will steer you in the right direction so I can't wait to see how it turns out.:D

BOB

By the way, do we get the goat urine at CMA, too?
