Not sure which machine to get...

I bought a PC, then a makita - sold the makita and after looking at the Flex, Cyclo and BO6040, bought the Flex. So what do I use most of the time? - the PC. The Flex on speed 4, maybe 5 ain't too loud and doesn't get too jerky, and the shape is good. On speed 6 - it can be a handful. I wish I had got the BO6040 sometimes for the selector switch and if that makita was like my rotary - maybe more quiet too. The Cyclo - I don't know, if I had a lot of extra cash, I'd have one just to see if all the talk was true.

You can't go wrong buying a PC, you can always buy something else later, but you'll always use the PC!

I would consider one of our Kevin Brown Kits with the Porter Cable. It is will give you the polishes and pads you need to get started, as well as it is very reasonably priced as a kit. With the current Dog Days of Summer Sale and additional 15% off of the kit price (and free shipping) it really is a crazy steal. Doing the math that comes out about 80 dollars off of the regular to price of 315, PLUS FREE SHIPPING!

Todd, first off tons of great info in that post! Ive decided that im going to go with the new PC 7424XP in favor of price and and being able to interchange backing plates and pad sizes.

Second, I love PAC!! Really one of the best buying sites ive seen with the information and review of products and the prices yall have  One question though, looking at the kevin brown kit you mentioned, there is one with meguiars pads and another with lake country pads that is a little cheaper. Last night I put the lake country one into my already huge shopping cart order :D However, I was wondering thoughts on the pad difference.

I am going to order more pads anyways, probably Meguiars, but was curious of the lake country :D

Congratulations on your purchase with PAC - they are absolutely the best people around for many reasons. I have been buying from the for years, and recently opened up my own detailing business.
I have only used Lake Country Pads for several years now and can say that they have never let me down or ruined anything I was doing. they have different types and sizes that do diffferent things, you are absolutely going to enjoy the 4" sizes to do different things as well. As someone believe Angelo said earlier, the 4" size is really good for doing alot of correction work too, and I just used the orange 4" pads on a severely scratched Honday Accord, Metallic Burgandy, with 116k miles, never detailed, scratched so badly, I was worried for a little bit, but it came out beautifully using
L/Country 4" and 6" pads in orange and white, respectively.

Lake Country makes pads at PAC's specifications, as well as pads for auto manufacturers, so they must be doing something right and in my experience, they are great.

Good luck with your projects, feel free to hang out and learn from some really, really, great professionals who post up often.

I think this is a great choice! The PC has been overlooked lately, but still is by far, our best selling polishers. They literally fly off the shelf, and for good reason.

This is another great choice!

You cannot go wrong either ways! Both kits where designed with Kevin Brown's input, hence our decision to offer flat buffing pads instead of CCS. When comparing foam to foam...

Meguiars Burgundy Cutting Pad is really made from an incredible foam. IMO, it will cut more and finish as nice as the Lake County Orange Pad. So in terms of defect leveling speed and ability the edge would go to Meguiars.

With the polishing pads, I really like the Lake Country White Pad over the Meguiars Yellow pad, as it seems to have a little more bit and finish as nice.

With the finishing pads, I find them equal.

However the Hi Gloss Pads offered with this kit also featuer Proper Auto Care's exclusive Constant Rebound Technology, which helps level the pad to the paint and absorb off axis movements.

I know you I left you with more questions then I answered, but you really cannot go wrong either ways. Keep in mind though that when Meguiars designed M105/M205 they designed it to work with their foams.

I am a 'Lake Country' pad guy myself as these are what I have used for a long time. When I learn new polishes, I tend to teach myself on these pads to eliminate any variables, so I continue to use them. However I have a drawer full of the Meguiars SoftBuff 2.0 Burgundy cutting pads, because they are that good.

I am going to order more pads anyways, probably Meguiars, but was curious of the lake country :D

We are happy to offer both, as each is made from the highest quality foams on the maket and too the highest standad. Happying buffing!

Thanks guys! Todd, you helped me settle it! :D Im getting the lake country pads and some megs pads along with them! Great thread and great advice. Threads like these satisfy a bunch of folks who don't regularly participate in the discussions (i.e. the "silent majority" who may be in the same boat as John).

Thanks guys!

Glad to help out. I am always relucant to offer 'cut and dry' suggestions because there are so many variables. That is why some people (I have been known to do this as well ;) ) will defend products so venomously. We have two choices, adapt our techniques to match the product or change the products so they better suit your techniques.
