This is my first post and I wanted to say hello and that this forum is so helpful and full of information that I have never known about! If there is info please post the link's. My question is that I've always tried to take care of my car's and their paint. Can you tell me what I need to use for the first time on my car to practice with? Its an 02 Honda Accord San Marino Red with light to medium swirl scratches. I'd like to know every step I would have to take. Do I Clean with AIO Cleaner, then polish 2 times? Im a noobie so just name off a good polish and wax and finishing wax to use. I really want a nice deep wet look. Any info will definately be helpful. Please help!!

:)

Thank you,

Welcome Big D ! Nice to have you aboard.

:welcome

I'll let the pros answer your questions but I'll say that with a red car you have many options for really making the paint "pop" after you take care of your scratches.

Do you have a PC or will you be detailing your car by hand?

Good luck !

I'm going to be purchasing a PC if i can find one cheap enough. Good, thats what i want and need it to do is "POP"! Just want to learn the many steps in doing so, and what to use for the color red..

Welcome to the forum!!! I have been reading and learning on here for about a month and am also from OKC. Have you found any local distributors for products (waxes, polishes, pads, etc.). If you know of any let me know. Good luck!!!

No, jknowles4 i have no idea what im doing right now. Hopefully i will learn a little something though. I havent even heard of half the products that are mentioned.

Ok after 4 hours of reading I think I got it.

NXT wash

Magic Clay bar?

AIO <~~~ whats a good one?

SSR2 w/a polishing pad

SSR1 w/a polishing pad

or Meg #80 with a polishing pad

NXT Wax

Meg #16

and finish it off with a couple of coats of

S100

How does this sound for a good start?

BigD,

First, welcome to the board!

You have quite a list there, and all very good products may I add. Here's my input:

Choose either #16 or S100 because they are both pretty much the same thing. #16 will last longer, but some say that S100 looks better. This is up to you, but doing both will be redundant.

AIO = Klasse All In One and this should be used exactly one step prior to NXT Wax for prep.

Delete #80 if you are going to go with PB's polishes, again same products. If you really want to go with #80, then get rid of the PB's polishes and go with all Meguiar's. Maybe #83, then #80.

What pads are you going to get? I recommend the Sonus DAS pads, and don't forget about some mf towels and a sheepskin mitt. Good luck!

Welcome aboard!

My recomendation would certailnly be to get the entire SSR1 line from Poorboy's. I really wish I would have had such useful products a year ago when I started detailing. The nicest part is they can be used with a PC on light scratches and marring.

It is't that difficult to get a car to look good if the paint is in ok condition, just do the basics to begin with.

wash, clay ( I use FI 1:1 w/ water to clay) and just wipe off each panel when done. Then use SSR1 buff till it starts to dust a little and wipe off. Then follow with NXT. If you are new #16 is great but must be applied very thin or becomes difficult to use, I would personally choose #26 for a couple of layers.

#80 is a great choice always an excelllent choice for your base on any car w/o major paint issues.

Overall your steps look fine, though I see a couple of things that "I" would change.

AIO is generally used to refer to Klasse All-in-One although people that have a preference for other paint cleaners will say differently. Klasse AIO is an excellent cleaner and should be used after polishing to remove anything the polishes leave behind.

I would buy a sealant other than NXT and drop the S100 from your list. I have had mediocre results at best with both products, NXT on a reddish maroon (more red than maroon) and S100 on black and silver. Neither product is impressive in my book. I think 4* Ultimate Paint Protection would look great on red, though I have not seen it, and Poorboy's Natty's paste wax if you are wanting two different carnaubas (Natty's & #16). #16 is an old school, durable and very clear wax that really gives nice results.

Ok, so is this right then?

Wash and dry with mf towels

Clay Bar,

ssr2 w/ polishing pad

ssr1 w/ polishing pad

AIO w/ polishing pad

Natty's finish pad

#16 finish pad

also would i use the polishing pads that exceldetail sales or the sonus ones? i will be getting my PC in about a week or so. and which MF towels from there are the best?

Wash and dry with mf towels

Clay Bar,

ssr1 w/ polishing pad

Ex-p w/polishin pad

AIO w/ polishing pad

Natty's finish pad

#16 finish pad

Hopefully i do it all right and don't screw up!

And hopefully my fiancee will let me get this stuff to do our hondas!

BigD,

You have too many protectants there. AIO, EX-P, Natty's, and #16 are all protectants and one can be eliminated.

1) Definitely do AIO with a polishing pad

2) EX-P applied with a finishing pad

3) Choose between #16 and Natty's (they are both carnaubas), applied by hand

EDIT: I don't know if anyone mentioned this to you already, so if they did just ignore this. EX-P is a sealant that needs a minimum of 24 hours to cure correctly for proper bonding before it's topped with anything else. So, when you get to the EX-P step, you need to stop there for at least 24 hours. Two coats of EX-P looks awesome, so if you want, you can apply a second coat after 24 hours, then wait another 24 hours and apply your carnauba topper. Just remember, 24 hours between coats when dealing with sealants.

Where do you buy the PB's products at?

Autogeek is an Autopia sponsor and they carry most or all of the Poorboy's line.

http://www.autogeek.net/

You can enter Autopia in the discount code/coupon box when checking out for a 10% discount. Autogeek has great products, service and support and as mentioned they help sponsor the site.

AIO needs to be the product you use after polishing but before your sealant or carnauba wax. If you apply EX-P first and then AIO, AIO will remove the EX-P.

I have used four protective products on my car before but I can get the same and better results using 2 or 3 products. Choose between #16 and Natty's.

Good catch Greg! I didn't notice that. You are correct...AIO then EX-P. That combo looks great BTW.

My product of choice has been VM + EX, but on my next detail I think I am going to try AIO instead of VM to see the difference. One things for sure, AIO is definitely a better paint cleaner than VM but VM just might have an edge in the *wetness* dept. We shall see.
