Bought new Hella taillights for my golf recently, i was thinking of applying #20 then S100 before i install, guessing it wont harm the plastic, ive waxed my taillights before, then theres meg plastX but these lights are new, so i think ill just protect with wax, any thoughts??

I think the #20 is fine, but if you really want to toss some S100 on there, it isn't going to hurt anything. The taillights look great too. I am thinking about ordering a set of lights off a Golf 4-Motion. I like the smoked centers. Post some pics when you install them. Oh, and be careful, there is lots of sharp sheetmetal behind the taillights and it is real easy to drop the mounting nuts into the body cavity under the light.

4DR - - For several months last year I played with different products on the head/tail lamp covers of the roadster. I won’t even try to list all of the things that I tried, but as an example: for a couple of months there was Zaino on one tail light and Klasse on the other.I was only judging on appearance, since there is no way to compare protection in just a few months.

My conclusion was that it makes little difference in appearance no matter what you do. When they’re new you’ll be admiring them for a month or two and you’ll notice very minor differences, but when your focus turns elsewhere you won’t be able to see any difference at all. IMO it’s best to just use whatever product you use on your paint because it’s the easiest way to go with the tail lamps.

Head lamp covers are a different matter though since there’s no way to avoid minor “dings from insects, sand, etc. My solution for the head lamps was to use Plexus for routine maintenance, and Novus for dealing with marring. An easy choice since I’ve owned several rag tops and these two products are outstanding for taking care of the plastic rear window.

My current solution for the head and fog lamps is X-Pel, so now both my front and tail lamp covers just get whatever I’m currently using on my paint - which right now is P21S or S100 or Souverän.

Those Hella taillights look great! :xyxthumbs

thanks for the replies, figure ill just go with #20 for now, but will prob use S100 eventually as a topper to #20, and when they appear to have a few scratches ect, ill try meg plastX, just bought a bottle at Can Tire, seems to have worked great, i applied to my old lights, headlights, and instrument panel. Cant wait to install these lights:bounce , like i said a buddy is helping me whose done his, so that will help, not that its a huge project, but id rather play it safe, thanks for the info though NickT:up
