New SAE regulations

On the F-body thing. I know on the LS1 F-bods, they were rated at I believe 300 or 305 hp on non-SS or WS6 models, and the WS6's and SS's were rated at 335 or 345 I can't remeber for sure. However on dyno's b/w the years of 98 - 2000 cars stock were putting down anywhere from 280 - 290 stock, and then the 01's and 02's, the most notable of the changes was adding the LS6 intake, stock. Theses cars tended to put down anywhere from high 290's to even lower 300's stock. The highest dyno sheet I have seen on a stock LS1 was around the 320 mark, which was an '02. My 2000 Formula put down 299 hp and 315 tq with just a catback and a lid(basically a freer flowing air box). I have an auto, and with the auto trans there is about an 18% drive train loss, and the estimated hp and tq at the fly wheel was 353hp and 371 ft lbs tq. There is no difference in hp and tq numbers for the SS or WS6 models. I have seen dyno sheets and the dyno around the same for the years posted. So, F-bods have been severly underrated cars from the factory.

The Accord went second and performed like we thought it would after hammering the throttle for a couple of days. No shy, retiring commuter engine, the J30A4 is a beast. It belted out 217 hp and 195 lbs-ft of torque at the wheels. And this engine is only rated at 240 hp/212 lbs-ft at the flywheel! Of course, we did use premium gas to extract the most possible power and the J30A4 rewarded us with a surplus. By comparison, last year's CL-S 6-spd pumped out 218 hp and 201 lbs-ft (also on a Dynojet) from its J32A2 engine. We felt that the J32A2 was pretty accurately rated at 260 hp/232 lbs-ft at the flywheel. If this is the case, that would make the Accord a 260 hp/225-230 lbs-ft engine. Not bad for 3 liters, SOHC and the "economy" form of VTEC.

Heck, the C6 corvette GAINED 5 hp with the new testing protocals.

Doesn't really change anything except more realistic and repeatable numbers.

Maybe help save madza another big embrassment.

I remember reading in C&D or Automobile Mag that Mazda RX-8 was overrated in the HP than in reality. I chuckled reading it.

So under the new regulations, the Accord is rated at 217hp/195lb-ft of torque?

No, those are the numbers that it's making at the wheels. It's rated horsepower is 240hp with regular unleaded. On premium unleaded it is figured to make about 265hp.

It will probably not change unless they are doing some mid model changes to the engine and I haven't heard about any at this point. On regular unleaded it pretty much makes the HP that it's rated for. You just get the "free" boost when you step up to premium. Keep in mind that regular unleaded is what Honda using to rate the HP on this car.
