New Product Review : CG ONE

Got a chance to test Chemical Guys' new waterless wash ,"ONE".

With nothing better to work on than my wife's white X-Terra at the moment,

I set about to messin' around.

Other than the color, this was actually a good test subject because

it's not meticulously maintained like my vehicle. (There are reasons for this :

A) I don't have the time. B) It's a lease vehicle. and C) I HATE the damn thing!!!

Absolutely cannot stand to work on it...PITA !).

ONE is billed as a one-step, nano-tech wash, polish and wax.

You just spray it on the surface like any other QD, wipe it down

then buff the haze with a clean portion of MF towel.

ONE comes in standard CG packaging and has a pleasant smell (orange

creamsicle).

I looked for what any of us would in this product :

-cleaning ability

-lubricity (non-marring)

-versatility

-finish (shine, gloss, slickness, etc...)

I'm happy to report that , after my first run , it has performed very well

in all areas.

Now I understand that white is not ideal for the purposes of

testing and offering proof via pictures, but it's what I had to work with.

Until I can post up with a darker vehicle (hopefully tomorrow), you'll

just have to take my word that I noticed no residual marring after use

on a fairly dirty vehicle (especially the hood).

In the following pictures , I'll try to demonstrate the virtues of this product.

I used it on every surface of the vehicle including glass ,plastic and wheels.

This product exhibited very good cleaning ability , left a very slick finish

with nice gloss and left no hazing (as of yet) on glass or trim.

I was very impressed with how it handled the crud on the wheels.

I used no extra product on them , just the slightly dampened towel from earlier.

What's best is the ease with which the dirt was removed----no forceful

rubbing or scrubbing. The dirt came off with very little pressure

in seconds....nice.

By tomorrow I hope to have better , more conclusive pics for y'all.

Until then , I hope this has been helpful.

Oops , almost forgot.

A few shots after a quick wipedown on the hood

of my truck. Just a little dirt and dust. It was polished and sealed

two days ago.

The lighting isn't great in any of the shots here or above...they were taken near evening.

Is this product to be used for mildly dirty cars? Say...cars that have been washed 1-2 weeks prior? From the looks of your Xterra, the car looks a lot dirtier, but wouldn't it induce marring?

You'd use it in similar situations as other like products....QD's ,

waterless washes , etc....

I just used it on the X because it seemed a good test and

I don't care much for the vehicle.

As for marring....like I said earlier , I didn't notice any extra for the vehicle

(which really isn't much to begin with). But it can be tough to tell for sure

on white.

The label says it contains polish also, but I'd bet it's probably just a chemical

polish/cleaner. (maybe fillers?)

i got a chance to try this product out before its release and it is my new go to product...i actually have a gallon of it...better than onr, 4in1, qd's, spray and wipe, etc...as far as protecting against marring i used it when i detailed a black g35 that even my softest mf towels were marring...it added enough lubricity and protection to help in my final buffing and eliminated all the marring on an ultra soft clearcoat...it definitely leaves a nice gloss behind and you can actually see the microfine clay in it that settles in the product that you have to shake up...it buffs super clean and leave a just waxed surface...not just a superficial gloss left by most qd's...try using it as a clay lube and you will be happily surprised...it lubes the clay well and then you buff off the haze it leaves behind and you will be left with a smooth surface that will have an amazing gloss to it...

Looks good!!

No linky...hasn't been released yet. (Not sure when it will be).

Keep an eye on the ChemicalGuys website.

By the way , I just got a look at the X this morning

while letting the dogs out and it looks AMAZING.

Hood---(very minor swirling not caused by the product....I made sure

to wipe in straight lines).

Keep in mind that this is on a non-prepped vehicle.

I'm VERY impressed so far......

I too happen to have some ONE, tried it out my sons black mustang, one small section of the hood. If marring were going to be introduced no biggie as I'm going to detail the car fully in the next week or so. Much to my amazement and delight there was no marring to be found, the hood in question was pretty dirty to start with and after ONE what a remarkable improvement. Never thought about using it as a clay lube but that sounds like a great idea!!! The gloss and slickness of ONE is fantastic as well. The only thing I don't like is having to wash some really dirty mf towels, but the car does look great!

This looks like one to watch! Any idea of release date? Are you folks part of beta testing?

Not beta testing...just pre-release, I suppose.

It was sent to me by Mark at Chemical Guys to try out

and give feedback. No idea of when general release will be.

gben : yeah, them towels get pretty filthy. Which amazes me

all the more that there's no marring.

Sounds very smiliar to Freedom Waterless Wash........Im not sure as you didnt mention if it has a Nuba base for protection. Freedom offer 2 versions, one with , one without.....I really like some of the new Waterless products, they're a sure time saver, if used appropriately. Nice find, glad your happy with it!

z : are you pre-washing ? follow-up washing after the clay ?

Hit me with some details of your method , if you please...I'm very

intrigued.

Patrick : it uses the term "wax" in the description of the product ,

but not sure if it's used generically. It also uses the term "nano-tech",

which, to me , implies polymers (someone please clarify this for me

because I'm about as far from a chemist as you can get).

I have yet to try the Freedom...it's one of the few I haven't.

And Pat , just because I like this stuff doesn't mean I don't

love you anymore ! :o You're still the best.

use it as a clay lube on a clean car...and just buff each section after claying...the surface will look just waxed and be super slick...and my milder clays pick up more contamination....i tested this by using a traditional lube on my car and clayed...and then clayed the same panel using "one" as my lube...a lot more contamination came up...

paul sent me a jug of it to try out on my last order..I got the Wet Mirror Finish..and Petes53 and the Citrus wash and gloss...so i asked Paul about the ONE product as I seen orngez speak of it in another post..So he said he would send a jug and let me know what I think of it...I hope to try it next week as the weather is finally starting to break after the snow and rain we had last week

Al

Got a chance to use it again today on a metallic charcoal HONDA Accord.

Worked very well even on the soft Honda clear.

If that doesn't convince folks , I don't know what will.

I'll post up pics later...gotta run.

I have recieved a sample as well (16oz), I find it is encapsulating the dirt FAR better than the ONR, I love this stuff as a one step, I like that if I have a customer wash, I can make them happier thinking I spent time waxing it, LOL.

It has a place on my shelf!

Only thing I noticed that I don't like is that I find that it goes really fast, or maybe I am using too much.

How many spritzes are you guys using for, say, a door?
