New Member- Silverstone 350Z & Zaino

I am new to posting on Autopia and not a professional detailer. One of the members here assited me with finding a new product for the Boxster as I had been disapponited with the results Zaino provided on the German Atlas Gray Metallic paint. Thank you picus. :)

I have a Silverstone 350Z, a Tungsten Pearl Lexus IS350 and an Atlas Gray Metallic Porsche Boxster that I care for at my home.

Zaino has been my staple product, but now I'm beginning to experiment and am thankful for a site with a forum that provides useful product information as well as info on how to use them.

I am using Natty's Blue carnuba over the Zaino sealant on this car now and much happier with the result. :xyxthumbs

Here are a few pics of the Z during and after a session. Find a shady spot, it was 60 degrees, cloudy and no humidity.

I really need to pave the driveway. :)

Supplies.

Wheels are a pain on the Z..the rotors are drilled so I blow out the water with compressed air or a small vacuum.

Drying is easy with waffle weave towels. A gentle rinse absent a hose nozzel removes most of the water if the wax or sealant is doing it's job.

I applied two more layers of Z5 and finished with Z2 original after she was dry. I left the Z2 without ZFX on overnight while the car was in the garage and buffed it out the next morning. I am not happy with Z2 PRO. It seems thicker and clumps out of the bottle...does not glide on in even thin layers for me so I stopped using it. There are 50+ layers of Zaino on this car. All appiled and removed by hand.

Thanks for looking. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Welcome!!

The 350z looks great.

Do you have any full pics of the boxter? Would love to see some after zaino and then after NB if you have any.

I have not had any problems with the Z2pro, but it is thicker then the old Z2. I hear of some mixing Z2 and Z2pro 50/50.

zaino is still the best until now , don't waste your dollars on another LSP

But if u r not satisfied with how your car look right now and want more from your paint concentrate on preparation work before applying zaino , prep is the important step

just my 2 cents

Thanks for the compliment. The pic above is Zaino only...no Natty's on the paint when I shot that one. The car had not even been washed...just rinsed.

My G/f took off with the Boxster right after I finished wiping it down with detail spray. Can't blame her....it was a nice day. I'm doing the wheel set on that car this weekend and weather permitting will take some pics after a quick wash.

Great looking 350Z.... :woohoo: :woohoo:

Thanks....nice to see another Z enthusiast. I sold my Diamond Black Pearl '91 300ZX TT, sadly, when I got this one. Drove that Z for 13 years without so much as a hiccup...best car I have ever owned.

50 layers ... how long did that take? :|

The Z looks real evil btw.

I started with Zaino on that car in November of 2003 and stopped counting at 50 layers.

Thanks for not calling her "cute". I still get that and it's not what I want to hear. :wall

Believe me I am learning about prep being the most important step.

These cars were all purchased new and I followed procedure as best I knew how...the dealership never touched the paint on any of them. I clayed'em and used a light machine polish on any panels that were not prefectly smooth to the touch before applying Zaino.

It just never felt right on the German paint, as opposed to the JA cars that seemed to love the stuff. I'm not a pro at this, but when my DF towel won't slide across the paint after the final detail spray is on...something isn't right IMO. The Natty's on top of the Zaino was an improvement for my eyes and touch on that car.

Welcome to Autopia, Love that color and Zaino on the Z. Please post more pics of the Boxster. :)

That seems a bit much although you can't argue with results. I have not experienced any clumping with the ZFX/Z-2 Pro combination. Could it be a temperature/storage issue?

Thanks...the Boxster is my g/f's daily driver (been together 18 yrs-long story) and I don't have many good pics of the car but will take some this weekend if the weather cooperates

It is overkill after 25-30 layers I imagine but it's something I enjoy doing. You could be right about the storage or temperature affecting the product but, the original Z2 is stored in the same place (garage) and always glides on in nice thin coats. I've e-mailed Sal regarding the issue but all he did was send me another instruction sheet with the order.

Great looking Z but I'm with Lee, more Boxster pics!

Here is a pic of the Z, Boxster and the Miata...the Boxster replaced the Miata. Apologies for the poor quality.

The Lexus IS. Nice paint to work with and even though this car looks bigger than the Z...1/3 - 1/2 ounze of Zaino will cover it just like the Z.

Boxster under cover...I am working on a detached garage.

Hello...time to get clean.

While the Z will eat the Boxster alive on any road...the Boxster is the most fun to drive. It is also the least fun to detail. Very soft clearcoat and almost black so I try not to lay hands on this one any more than necessary.

Very sweet looking ride. I also have not had any clumping with Zaino, works great for me.

Thanks again for all the kind words, FlatFour/burgundyz...

I never had any problems w/Zaino until the Z2Pro...maybe I'm missing something. I still have two bottles of original Z2 and plan on using that with ZFX when I don't leave the application on overnight. If I 'm leaving it on overnight I'll use the Z2Pro w/o ZFX since I can't get the layers as thin and end up using nearly a full ounce of product. Just want to make sure it cures completely going on so thick.

Here is a pic of the Boxster on delivery day

Hi KShep :welcome

The cars look good - like I mentioned to you before it's going to be tough to beat Zaino on the Z, but since you're willing to experiment I'll let the other know the products I recommended you try:

1) UPP

2) Clearkote Carnauba

3) Souveran (if you're feeling spendy) or P21S/S100

4) Acrylic Jett

and of course OCW.

I'm sure other folks will have recommendations (including "leave the Zaino on it") :)

Hi Picus....thanks again for all your assistance.
