Hello from England, and here is my 1st post on Autopia...

I bought a one owner from new BMW 320i the other week. Very well looked after but it needed the treatment.

1. I kicked off with Autoglym shampoo (I don't recommend it!)

2. I used Poorboy's SSR2 and a variable speed Silverline mop - the paint was slightly oxidised and this brought the shine back a treat. It only needed low rpm and a soft foam pad.

3. Meguiar's Quick Clay, doing one section at a time, two applications on each panel left paint feeling like glass.

4. Followed by two coats of P21-S Carnauba Wax.

For a white car the shine is great but from the above is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Scuttle panels are prone to going crusty on E30s, not on this one though

So are boot floors...

Trim puts the 'm' in mint...

Thanks mate.

I spent the weekend doing the Beemer, I'd say eight hours plus (including the interior.) Inside I used Meguiar's APC and Meguiar's All Season Dressing on the vinyl/plastic and buffed it to a matt finish.

Silverline is a tool make over here in the UK. I think you call them 'rotary buffers' in the States, aesthetically, they look like a grinder but do the bizzo with a pad attached!

A couple more pics, in a way I feel like my efforts are wasted on a white car even though the results are good!

Welcome mate!

That car looks spot on, and cracking for her age (B reg), excellent. Lovely shine too...

Personally, I clay a car before polishing it to remove the bonded contaminants so there are none while I'm dealing with the sub-surface defects (swirls etc).

what is a scuttle pannel or a boot floor? SPEAK ENGLISH DAMN IT! (if you dont get that... its only a joke)

Your work looks great! Always fun to see white look good IMO

I want to come out to the States big time, even the streets/road surfaces in the background of most pictures are absolutely mint! Is it a good country to live in?

Thanks for the feedback, I started to use the clay on the oxidised paint after washing but it was picking up so much crap (using up loads of clay) I turned to the mop to get the worst of it off. This is obviously the wrong way to go about it!

Pics didn't load for me. :(

The only suggestion I would make is claying before polishing.

Edit-reclicked and saw the pics. Very nice job, love those older 3s. :)
