New Ford

Very cool.

I am loving the 5.0 as well. They're a great all around drive. @01GreyStangGT - what year is that GT California Special that you got?

It's a 2011. I got it 3 weeks ago. I special ordered it. The new Mustangs are a great package. Motor Trend is comparing the 5.0's to the BMW M3.

Anyone have any acid rain etching on the horizontal panels?

Nope, but then again I live in an area with extremely little air pollution, so I'm not the best example.

It usually starts way before they get delivered. If you visit the area where they get assembled you'd understand why. The air is so thick with toxins you can cut it with a knife. I did warranty paint work for 6 Ford dealers, owned about 30 Mustangs, and have seen 100's and can count on 1 hand the ones that didn't have some kind of environmental damage. Not saying that there aren't out defect free ones out there, but I find it pretty pathetic that so many are prone to this condition.

Very strange indeed. I've never noticed anything like acid rain etching, or anything that resembles environmental fallout damage. I will look very closely next time I wash it out of curiosity.

Mother and step father just bought a 2011 grabber blue 5.0 with the brembo package. They love it, the car feels solid and tight all the way around compared to my 05. No imperfections at all except very minor swirls(It was built just a few weeks ago)....Now what I really want is Ken Block's fiesta :)

Nice cars, good value, but competition to the M3, hardly.

2005 silver convertible

Not saying your car does/doesn't have it, but silver (and white) are probably the most forgiving and concealing color for acid rain. I had a very difficult time detecting it on my 03 Cobra (silver). Unfortunately it usually sticks out like a sore thumb on anthing darker.

Interesting. I'll agree with silver being forgiving with a lot of things, none the less I will do my best to try and find any evidence of it.

The GT lost at a road coarse by a whopping .09 secs to the M3. Beat the M3 in the 1/4 by 10th

Maximums---------2011 BMW M3---2011Ford Mustang GT

Lap time, sec------87.67...................87.76

Top speed, mph---107.7...............106.8

Highest accel g-----0.47.................0.39

Highest braking g---0.9................... 0.95

Max lateral g--------1.32....................1.3

2011 BMW M3 Coupe vs. 2011 Ford Mustang GT Comparison - Motor Trend

And yet, at the test track, the 5.0 equals or betters the M3 in every performance category we measure. Both hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, but the Mustang is faster to the quarter mile by a tenth of a second and 0.7 mph-12.7 seconds at 111.6 mph. It also stops two feet shorter from 60 mph-a tie as far as we're concerned-and the GT really shatters the M myth on the skidpad. America's original ponycar manages to outgrip one of Germany's most iconic sports cars to the tune 0.2 second through our figure eight and by 0.01 g in lateral acceleration.

"Which is why when pressed, Randy admits that he believes he set the fastest lap in the M3. So do I. "I think the BMW is faster because of its superior shock control at high speed," he says. "It has very little nose dive, very little brake dive, which gives me more confidence as a driver. It's more refined, a more conservative car than the Mustang is and far better controlled.""

"1ST PLACE: BMW M3

Did you blink and miss the M3's onionskin advantage over the GT? Here's a hint: It's in the chassis, not underhood."

"Final thoughts: "Both are really rewarding to drive. The BMW is far better controlled while the Mustang is more of a wild ride.""

I'm not knocking the Mustang, its a fantastic car. I've owned one and it was one of my favorite cars. I've driven many RWD live axle cars, though, the newest Mustang GT I've driven was an 06. I've also driven quite a few BMW's. I've driven both sets of cars hard enough to get bitten in the *** by that live axle. Its fantastic for drag racing, but when the pavement isn't 100% smooth, you lose control very easily, sure these days the ESP brings you back in. That said, there is a huge price difference between the cars, but if its ultimate handling you want, the M3 is an amazing choice, and this was just one test by Motor Ford Friendly Trend.

I think both vehicles are amazing machines. That said, the Mustang certainly has come a very long way from where it was 10 years ago, where if you tried comparing the M3 to the Mustang, you'd be looked at funny.

I agree. Just to be compared to to the M3 is a big thing and a big step up for Ford.
