New car and a few surprises

So I just got my first car, a 1995 BMW M3. Black, of course. The interior shows some wear, but nothing that can't be fixed, and the exterior is nearly flawless, or so I thought. It came with a spoiler, but I noticed that as I closed the trunk it would flap up at the back and hit the paint. Having looked under the deck lid, I saw that only the two front bolts were there, meaning that it was free to move up and down at the back with every bump in the road. I removed it and to my horror, this is what I saw . Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I was going to buy a carbon fiber deck lid sometime, but I'm broke at the moment. Therefore, there isn't much point in repainting this one. Can I try to sand it (the edges of the marks seem to be down to metal) and then just spray clear over it to stop the rusting? I could then maybe reinstall the spoiler properly to conceal the marks until I can replace the lid...

If you got the car from a dealership hound them to fix it. Other than that clean it up and get some rustoleum or something on there. tape off the area real good so it doesnt get on anything else.

Actually it was bought privately. I don't think the owner even knew about it himself because he was quick to point out everything else that was worn or might need replacing. Looks like I'll have to go with the temporary fix.

Thanks for the help. I have every grit of 3M wetsanding paper but I don't know what I should be using. Coarser than for usual wetsanding I presume? Also, where can I get prepsol and rustmort?

You can get Prepsol at any auto parts store. Use the prepsol before you start sanding and after. You don't want to sand

contaminants into the paint that should be feather edged

before painting. You always want to use products like Prepsol

BEFORE any sanding,especialy touch up.
