New Black '12 GTI water spots re-appear after detailing

I hope that you know rain water will not cause water spots because it does snot contain minerals like well water or tap water will.

I would just hate for a good detailer to get stuck with a bill becasue you though the spots "came back" as apposed to get re-installed at the coin op out of not understanding the what these spots are caused or the coin op owner having a flawed system.

I am not a pro, but I have been on these boards for a while and the person you are acusing is a top notch detailer, I have seen his work over the forums and it is rare to have s cusotmer not satisfied by work done by any of the top notch guys on this Forum, Autopia CC or DB.

Hello everyone, how's the rush to judgement going? The reason I have not posted up is because I am in the middle of a "dispute" with a detailer. I'm not going to hash it out with The Internet at large when there is an issue regarding something like this. Everybody has awesome looking photos, everybody has an opinion, everybody is honorable, everyone is "right", yet there is an issue. There have been emails, sms's, phone calls, meetings, consultations, offers, and counter offers. The detailer has laid out their version of the story how they want to tell it.....and I have elected not to share my side of the story, because all it will accomplish is finger pointing at each other....right?

Briefly though, it is not very exciting:

As The internet has noticed I stopped posting since the issues(s) were becoming more complicated/variable. A "solution/offer" was presented TO me, discussion ensued, a counter-offer was presented BY me with a deadline (~just less than a weeks time) for an answer/counter.....I never heard from the detailer again.......

Simple.

I moved on and found a company, a professional company, they evaluated the car in person, noted the issues that were hidden/missed/other, accepted the job, even after I told them the epic story of the dealership spots, the rain, the heat, the roadtrip, the other detailer, the coin-op, and the photos/posts/threads online. They provided me with their written hands-on professional opinion (you can figure this out on your own), and based on the "no response" from other detailer, a dispute was filed.

The company also guaranteed their work period.

In a case of good fortune & Interestingly, after their detail, the car was rained on, the rain sat overnight, then allowed to dry naturally, not wiped down for a week after the rain, then coin-op'd at the same place, hotter day... & guess what? The car looks perfect. NO SPOTS, NO ETCHING, ANYWHERE even after all that happened. I am a happy camper.

This company also comes highly recommended, is well established and been around for years professionally.

It is naive to think a detailer never makes mistakes ever, and then to take the blame game onto the Internet is unprofessional, leaking partial credit card numbers and personal private telephone numbers is unprofessional.

Till this day, I have not dragged any persons name or their company through the mud, called them out, or disparaged (sp?) them on any website. I will not post up the other small business that did the work, only to have others disparage them, as has been done to me. Professionalism.

To summarize: Case closed and I've moved on. As stated, it is not very exciting, keep calm and carry on.

If the water spots were removed (and it appears they were), they don't magically re-appear. I don't know of any glaze that can effectively hide water spots so I don't believe any trickery was done on Tim's part. Just because this last time at the coin-op didn't leave water spots on the car doesn't mean it was functioning properly the last time. When I was first testing Opti-Coat I was using a local coin op (to eliminate the use of ONR keeping the coating beading) to wash my car and on more than one occasion, the spot free rinse left some spotting. I was able to get the car wiped down in time to prevent the spots from welding themselves to my paint. I also had a customer who had a water de-ionizer/reverse osmosis system at his office he wanted me to use. I could usually let the cars air dry, but the couple times I did when the system wasn't functioning properly, I ended up rewashing the cars to remove the spots.

Its good that you got your car taken care of to your satisfaction and hopefully have learned that you just flat out can't allow a black car to air dry. But I do believe that odds are the water spots were properly removed from your car in the first detail.

Cross-posting my DB post:

I did some investigative work on OP...by cross-referencing the car specific forum GolfMK6.com

On GolfMK6 forum it is evident to me that the owner was happy with the dealership where he purchased the car which is a stark contrast to when he made comments here saying the dealership put dings and marring in the car - so maybe the original water spotting wasn't even dealer-induced:

Just bought from them, very good selection, the dealership is only about 4 months old-so they are working out the kinks, but not bad overall. Sales so-so, service so-so, and finance very good.

Got what i wanted, at the price I was happy with, so I can't complain.

Post date: 8/10/12
Order included the last items needed, I think, when combined with my Adams order (see thread titled similarly) for a years worth of basic detail supplies. I might need a couple more towels, and another grit guard though?

Optimum Opti Clean (waterless wash)

Optimum ONR (no rinse) car wash

Mercury+ Pro double action trigger (cool double action, never seen this type before)

Grit guard

Wolf's nano fabric sealant

Aerospace 303 (love the multipurpose stuff)

Aquartz Reload spray sealant

Über plushy QD towel

Über plushy "no-name" towel

I know black cars are a ***** to take car of so we'll see how it looks in a year

The only thing I used before is the 303, so I'll post up later how they are working for me.
Wait...did I read that correctly...owner acknowledges black cars are 'a ***** to take [care] of'.

Owner's car seems to marr easily

Yes, that shop does have detailing listed as a service. Again, a reference to this shop:

Thread title: To wash or not to wash.... That is the question

Post date: 9/6/12
Once a week, if needed. Bugs get QD'd as necessary. Having a black car, I try to not touch it much even using a grit guard, and 1-2 bucket method and Optimum ONR or Optimum waterless wash and thick plush microfibers. Sadly, the car gets parked in a very dusty area.

I've had the car have a full paint correction for some issues and I'm trying my best to maintain what the detailer did protection wise.

Of course, it also depends on where you park, windy, dusty, rainy, etc.
Too much reading, haven't been on autotopia in so long.

You should go back to the wand wash and see if the same results occur.
