New Abrasives Chart

I was under the assumption that final polish II was the lightest abrasive polish mezerna made and 85RD was more abrasive. I need to do an ultra light polish and would like the absolute lightest i can get.

That's kind of a tricky issue... supposedly, they have the same amount of cut *in their class of polish*. PO85RD is in the Ceramiclear (hard clear coat) class of polishes, just like SIP, 106FF, and 106FA. Intensive Polish has the same amount of cut in it's class as SIP does in its. I'm not doing a very good job of explaining this, but an easy summary: PO85RD is the *lightest abrasive* polish meant for use on hard clear coats, and FPII is the *lightest abrasive* polish meant for non-hard clear coats.

akimel... heres a quote from mike philips on the meguiars forum. "As far as swirl and scratch removing ability by machine, ColorX will be a little more aggressive than the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and about the same as ScratchX." scratch x is about a 4... thats not what i was writing about earlier.. but i searched for it for a while and couldnt find it... so yea.. i guess just take what i said with a grain of salt.. im pretty sure of what i saw.. mabye since you're a meguiars forum member you could ask mike for us.

Thanks, JDizzle, for the citation from Mike P. Given that M80 and M205 are both rated at 4, Mike's statement would support a tentative assignment of a cut of 3 for ColorX and ScratchX (discontinued version).

The Meguiar's staff has been reluctant to assign cut numbers for their consumer line products. I have asked on the forum for the cut numbers of SwirlX and Ultimate Compound and was politely refused, so I think we're on our own here. :) We have the cut numbers that Megs has assigned their professional line polishes, and we have the comparative aggressiveness scale that they published last November. Beyond that we are going to have to make inferences and adjustments based on people's experiences with the various products.

I am real curious to have a better grasp where SwirlX and Ultimate Compound fit into the numeric scale. M83 has a cut of 6, and SwirlX is said to be stronger than M83 (which would tentatively support the assignment of 7 for SX), yet has everyone's experience confirmed this? And how stronger is UC than SwirlX? Is it closer to M105 or SwirlX?

yea. i really wish that they would tell just how abrasive their consumer products are... some of them are very effective, i just wish i knew how much paint i was removing

i really don't think m105 has a serious bite to be that high! i mean it bites but i used worse!

Yeah, I can't see much harsher than 3M EC. That stuff is like 1500 grit in liquid form.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I have both products and have been using 85RD once a year on my soft black honda paint that stays virtually flawless. I just wanted to be sure i was using the lightest polish so i don't go through my clear coat over the next 5 years or so after my once a year polishes to re-achieve absolute perfection.

I'd suggest moving KAIO down to a 1 (never seen it remove much of anything), leave ZAIO at 2, and add Werkstat Prime Strong as a 2.

bump for more products to be added (i hope:xyxthumbs)

Thanks for the free bump! Ive been pretty busy with work, furthering my education, and family activities. Id love to add more products; its simply a matter of what people want added and whether or not I can find enough credible information.

Adding Werkstat Prime strong.

Thanks everyone!

I have no experience with Menzerna polishes, but this question came to mind today as I was perusing this chart. I realize that Meguiar's states that SwirlX is stronger than M83, which is rated at 6 on the Meguiar's scale; but given everything I have read about SIP, I began to wonder if SwirlX really is more abrasive/aggressive than SIP. Does anyone have experience with both products?

Craig I sorta edited the Menzerna products around relative to meguiars, but the 3m is indeed more aggressive than 105

Personally, I think that the non-diminishing products should be in a totally different category. Even though they may have the same cut level on the bottle, it is almost impossible to compare them evenly.

Between SIP and SwirlX, SwirlX has a higher cut.

I was under the impression that Optimum Compound II has more cut ability that the Hyper Compund based on their respective descriptions.

This is a great chart. Being a noob, it’s nice to see this as I move from OTC to more professional product.
