New Abrasives Chart

Yeah, I just upped it after reading the link I posted earlier. I personally have only used the original ScratchX out of the consumer line, and initially based my rankings on that.

Current Listing:

UC-9

ScratchX 2-8

SwirlX-7

I assume this chart came from Autogeek - since it's incorrect, according to Menzerna Germany. Powerfinish or "PO203S" have a cut of 3,5 and gloss 3,5.

Doesn't say that 203S has a cut of 3.5, so why is it wrong?

Sorry left out the word "it", so, Doesn't it say that 203S has a cut of 3.5, so whay is it wrong? Are you reading the post that I made? It states that Powergloss has a cut of 5.0 not 3. What are you reading???

Just to note, D151 is rated a seven on the Meguiar's scale.

M86 should probably be mentioned, but I'm really not sure if it was ever given a rating on the scale. It is definately more aggressive than M84 and I can't compare it to Ultimate Compound. Personally, I would rank it a 9 on the scale.

3,5 here means cut 3 and gloss 5. It does not mean 3.5, as is commonly used in Europe. Anyway, Menzerna's rating is not the same as Meguiar's.

i read on the meguiars forum today that color X has a rating of 4... .. and im curious about where mothers power polish would fall.. mothers claims its about the same as DACP for its abrasiveness rating..

Thanks a lot for the input guys. Im trying to juggle work and some other things, but im going to update this tomorrow.

Add:

ColorX-4

#86-(somewhere)

D151-I havent seen this on the megs chart. Can anyone substantiate that this is a 7? That seems pretty aggressive for an AIO.

3M-Ultrafina at 3, and Ultra Cut compound. (I could really use some help with the 3M line)

Werkstatt Prime Strong- with the other AIOs

Ill keep this updated!

May I ask where specifically you read this. Meguiar's has typically refrained from comparing the abrasiveness of their cleaner waxes with the abrasiveness of their polishes. If ColorX enjoys a cut of 4, then this would make it comparable to M205 and M80. Does this sound right?

I think we are talking apples and pears here :)

I mean that the chart from Autogeek is wrong, not your chart.

D151 is the Paint Reconditioning Cream. Since it is from the Detailer (not the Professional) line, it starts with the letter D. #151 is incorrect.

Thanks for all the hard work. I just really hope no one new happens upon this chart and uses it to compare cut between different brands.

Optimums cut rating of 3 is not on the same scale as meguiars or menzerna or poorboys, etc.

Really this should be used as a quick reference to remember what is what. I dont think you should be putting up products that havent officially been given a cut rating because than youd be placing them all on a general scale. I mean, menzerna doesnt even officially go past 5.

And than theres the whole issue with diminishing and non diminishing.......

its late, im rambling......excellent work

I agree... OP I've actually been trying a few things myself as well as collecting some info from a few detailers trying to make a list like this, but I won't be posting it until it's complete (or at all if this succeeds)... you need to revise the title or post at the top of the thread that it's a WORK IN PROGRESS then gather info from everyone's posts regarding the different products... there are many variables but this can in fact end up being a fairly correct guide, but people need to be honest in what they've used, as well as list pad, machine, time, etc. etc. etc.

I figured Meg's scale of 0-12 was best to start with, then go according to that with different products... so if you put Menz PG at a certain number, calculate the % of cut 106ff has compared to PG, and put it on the Meg's/'Main' cut scale accordingly

Again, this will take a lot of time, a lot of sorting through posts like "I think polish X has a cut of 8 because my friend told me polish Y has a cut of 5" and a lot of good info from competent and, most importantly, experienced detailers.

I'll post up my list on what I have so far in a few minutes, but right off the top of my head you're missing some stuff, like Meg's #3, M66, M84 is 9 not 8, etc...

I was under the assumption that final polish II was the lightest abrasive polish mezerna made and 85RD was more abrasive. I need to do an ultra light polish and would like the absolute lightest i can get.

From my experience FPII is 'lighter' than 85rd and I think it should be @ #2 on the chart

Obviously, since the charts are different for all the different brands, im not just taking them all and plunking them in the same chart. Ive done a lot of research on what other people have experienced with these, as well as what I have experienced. And just because they don't have an 'official' cut rating doesn't mean we cant rate their cut.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Have you used it???? It really is sandpaper in a bottle... and SSR2 is really just a step above SSR1 not really anywhere near 2.5

Fixed it. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" :chuckle:

Id love to change the title, but I can't.

Most of the info Ive used for this chart comes from what we all consider creditable sources here and on other communities.

I initially didnt pick the #3, #7, #2, etc. to place on the chart because I didnt want to overload it. But depending on what others feel, I may put them in.

Fixed M84, Added M66

Thanks everyone!

Edit: For some reason, I find the 3M line to be even more confusing than the Menz. Help me out here
