New "100% cotton" viking mitts are NOT!

I was washing my truck today with the "100% cotton wash mitt" when I noticed swirls going in the direction on my wash stroke.



I thought for a minuite..... Truck wasn't really dirty........ Water is filtered........ Bucket is clean....... must be the mitt.



I pulled threads out, then let them dry on alumnium foil. When they got gry I set the on fire.. Guess what I found.... They MELTED!!!!!



Nice to know a company I oncee trusted can no longer be trusted.

Needless to say, whatever happened to honest, quality, customer service??????



I 2nd the heads up, next time I purchase I wash mitt I'll look closer at what Im looking at,,,,,91
 
I tested mine before I washed the truck. Had the same issue. Hard, black clump, not 100% cotton. I took it back. Larry
 
Unfortunately this is a too common occurrence in the textile industry. It may not be totally Viking's fault, they are probably guilty of ignorance more than anything.



What happens far too often is that a company buys fabric and the textile mill claims a product is 100% Cotton (or whatever fiber) and they assume correctly that the buyer doesn't check and doesn't even know how. Viking assumes it is 100% Cotton, they don't think to check it out themselves. The best thing you can do is notify Viking in the form of a complaint and watch to see how fast they react.



I import many types of fabric and I learned years ago to be especially wary of Korea, China, India. Pakistan, and even Japan. I even once had an American mill pull a fast one and try to give me Silk/Polyester instead of all Silk. Luckily I caught it as the fabric was for neckties for Brooks Brothers!



ALWAYS check your towels when you first buy them. The burn test is the easiest for the layman. I'll look up my charts so you can see what results of burn tests can tell you. Give me a day or two and I'll post them.

Wow, that's scary that you can't trust a lot of suppliers, even from well established industrial countries or domestics. :(



I've become very familiar with the burn test myself. To see those untainted, pale, ash residues of genuine 100% cotton is such a rarity....

I leave for a weekend and all hell breaks loose. I the issue is being looked into NOW. All of you who are unhappy with the mitt please PM me so we can discuss one on one.
 
Currently production on the 100% Cotton Mitt has been halted and yarn has been stripped from random spools along the production line. We have been in contact with our yarn supplier, who happens to be in the United States, and discussions are underway. I want to emphasize that in no way was VIKING trying to undermine our customers, for you are the sole purpose we are here. I will relay information as it is made available. We value all of our customers and their view of our products. If we have made a wrong we will make it right.
 
Glad to see the response(s) from Viking so quickly. I look forward to the results of their 'investigation".



Please correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I do most washing wiith a 16x16 MF towel (no tags). It holds a BUNCH of suds and seems to work for me just fine.



I use the 2 bucket regimen - anybody see a glaring problem here?? I don't see a reason for the extra 'tool'/mitt.

Am I missing something?

I just did the burn test on 2 Viking "cotton" wash mitts that I

recently purchased from YoSteve. Both were from the older

packaging....both FAILED the burn test, both hard black clumps.

I'm expecting a package tomorrow with Pinnacle cotton mitts,

I'll see how they test out and post here.

How will you handle a return/exchange of the wash mitts for Autopians who have the bad item?

Currently a shipment of yarn is in route to an independent testing facility for fabric analysis. In the next day or so the results will be in and the appropriate action will be taken. I please ask that all Autopians hang onto their mitt(s) and await further instructions. Thank you for your understanding during this troubling period.
 
Just received my order of 2 cotton mitts from

Pinnacle. Couldn't wait till I got home to do the burn test, so outside I went. The Pinnacle 100%

cotton mitts were as advertised ,100% cotton.

I burned a few strands and there was virtually

nothing left,just a little bit of gray ash. Nothing like the little crisp black stick left

after burning the Viking mitt. Only thing I

didn't like about the Pinnacle mitt was that it's

smaller than the Viking. We'll give it a try this

weekend.
