need recommendation: spray on drying aid - slick detail spray or spray wax?

Alright well I now have Adam's detail spray, onr, 3D final touch, Griots speed shine, griots spray wax, duragloss aquawax, pinnacle spray souver

an, megs ultimate quick detailer, and FK425. Surely one of these will turn out to be "the one!"

Try what I do sometimes, use the Griots spray wax while drying, then come back a few hours later and wipe the car down with FK425. It will look dripping wet and be slick as wet ice!

extrabolts- At the risk of sounding like one of those twits who's never satisfied, I do wish you had some FK146 too. THEN it'd be a pretty complete test! Just something to keep in the back of your mind as I find it just different enough to qualify as "special" compared to my other QDs.

The other one that comes to mind is AI/VG's Fast Finish, if only because Ron Ketcham thinks it's so great. I called them for a sample but it never showed up (nor did the stuff I actually paid for, and I'm gonna need that pretty soon).

The Fast Finish did produce a noticeable easier-to-dry effect when I used it to QD while drying. It's more "resiny" than the typical QD. I assume that's what gives it that attribute. If nothing else, that's what I found in it to be unique when compared to other, more watery QDs.

That's why I'd like to compare it to FK146. Might do something like a half-and-half on part of the Crown Vic.

:chuckle: Only on autopia would a 9-way detail spray / spray wax test be too few products! We'll see I might do a test - kind of different products so maybe just a review post. I could throw spray collinite 845 into the mix but that might not be fair.

I decided not to grab FK146 too since most of what I read says it is not as slick as FK425, which is really all I'm looking for as something to spray on while I dry. Honestly, I'm not really even sure why I spray something on while I dry, and certainly not sure why I need to try nine different things (7 of which I went ahead and got a gallon of "just because"), *but* I do look forward to trying them all out and reporting back!

You're in good company there. I can't resist new QD's, I keep thinking there has to be something better than OID, but I am always disappointed.

George, I called Beth, she said they went out that day.

She is doing a tracking on your order.

See, a grumpy old fart watches out for his buddies.

Grumpy

Ron Ketcham- Gee, thanks! That was very considerate of you :bow Heh heh, in the back of my mind I *was* wondering whether you'd see that post ;)

I was holding off on calling, figuring that all sorts of stuff can get between a phone call and the delivery; Beth was so nice I didn't want to give any impression of dissatisfaction. Now, if it hadn't shown up for a few more weeks....as long as I get that ETR kit around the time the Tahoe gets out of the bodyshop (which now appears to be delayed) all will be fine.

Hope nobody takes any of this the wrong way, IMO AI/VG has great customer service.

I would never worry about calling Beth, or should you, after all she put up with Grumpy for almost 15 years and was in cohoots with Tim on giving the nick name of Grumpy.

She emailed me that she is checking on what and why the shipper has not got the order to you.

World Famous Grumpy

There's a big oil painting of Ron in the hallway of AI with the epithet "Grumpy" on a brass plate :chuckle:

I give up...AI/VG???

Can someone point me in the direction of Fast Finish (a link or a vendor where it can be purchased...) I'd like to check it out.

Thanks!

Try both and use whichever you like better. Sometimes I have smearing issues with spray waxes on damp surfaces. QDs rarely smear. Very dependent on the lsp for me.

With the help of a good friend, I managed to put my hands on some FK146.

Used it after drying (next time I plan to use it during drying) and I must say it is very easy to work with (easier then 425 at least on top of my carnauba) and in terms of looks, just like 425, I could notice enhanced slickness.

Overall very happy and I will definitely get more of it when I get another chance!

Acc, the fk146 appreciation club is growing it seems :).

Ch90667- Ah, glad to hear you're liking the FK146. Try it on something with *VERY LIGHT* marring some time and see it it does any (minimal) concealing for you.

i admit i did'nt read every post, i don't know if anyone mentioned duragloss aquawax or prima hydro. i find these to be excellent drying aids as well and they leave a very slick, glossy finish.
