Need a replacement for TAW.

Don't get me wrong... I *love* TAW, but it is just too expensive. What are you guys using as a good TAW substitute?

You'll want to try Surf City's Grime/Road Trip cleaner stuff. It's somewhat stronger than TAW, does an awesome job. I use it at 50% strength.

Thanks, Tom! Wow... *big* price difference when diluted. $12 cheaper for five liters.

Surf City sure has some interesting loking stuff.

Yeah, i got a sampler from them. Their tire dressing is one of the best I've found, appearance-wise. It has a very natural appearance. It does on blue, but dries quickly. People had raved about their glass cleaner.

I like the Road Trip stuff for spot cleaning...that's where it excels.

What about the S100 equivalent??? It can be picked up at most Harley Davidson dealers.

It's still pretty expensive.. 15 bucks per liter at the local Harley shop.

SuperBee364- Depends on the application...what're you gonna be using it for?

I use it for a lot of different applications. On customer cars, I use it as part of the pre-polishing wash, as well as the post-polishing wash. Wheel wells, wheels, tires, engines. Similar to APC use, really, but any TAW replacement must be safe for paint use, like the Surf City product is.

A good TAW wash after polishing removes any oils that do that obnoxious "unintentional filling" thing.

I could ramble on about TAW for pages, really.

Yeah, I know what Accumulator is thinking. I don't believe I'd use the Surf City product for washing. I think TAW may be somewhat unique in its category if that's your application, SuperBee.

Have you ever looked at the various applications listed on the Meg's APC+ bottle? It's one of the most diverse products I've come across...you may have it already. It works well as a de-waxer, but may be too strong for an intermediate wash phase.

There are quite a few citrus-based washes today. That may be your best solution. I don't have much direct experience, the CG product seems to be frequently mentioned here.

Yeah, that's the problem with trying to replace TAW; it is pretty unique. The Surf City product does specifically talk about using it on paint, though, so I think that puts it into TAW's class.

I use TAW in conjunction with CG's Citrus Wash N Gloss.. Brief version of the process:

HP rinse

Lightly mist entire car with TAW

Apply CW&G over the top of the TAW with a foam cannon.

Mix CW&G at high strength in 5 gal bucket.

Use MF washing mitt over entire car.

HP rinse, Spot free rinse, WW dry.

Next the car is clayed, then polished. I then do the same washing routine after polishing. The TAW and CW&G make quick work of any residual oils, as well as the inevitable polish-filled cracks and stained trim.

In spite of how expensive TAW is, it saves so much time it's *almost* worth the expense. Getting a cheaper alternative that works just as well would be the proverbial icing.

I use the SC Grime Destroyer EXACTLY like you described and it performs VERY well... Just as good as TAW in my opinion....

Also work VERY well on engines

Super funny you posted this as I just ordered my potential TAW replacement... CG Citrus Wash & Clear... it was recommended to me by a few people so I figured I'd give it a shot... it's about $40 less per gallon than TAW so I'm hoping it works just as well (I ordered a small sample)

That's very good to hear. I'm gonna order some of the Surf CIty stuff.

Unfortunately, Citrus Wash Clear isn't nearly as strong as TAW. It's the same thing as CW&G, without the rinse and gloss agents added. I have a sample bottle of the Citrus Wash Clear that's almost gone now. It works better for the post-polishing wash than the Wash N Gloss does, as not having the rinsing agents/glossing agents is an advantage when you're doing a defect inspection afterward.

While you are at it you may as well order some of the Tire dressing and some of the glass cleaner.. Both of these items have not left my shelves since the 1st day I tried them FYI shipping is free if you buy direct from them for orders of $50 or more... Thier QD's are also VERY nice... the nuba fortifoed QD gives a very nice glow.

At one time I remember FMINUS stating he thought #461, Duragloss UO (Ultimate Orange) was very similar to TAW. @ $20 a gallon it's a good deal. I have not used it yet.

Duragloss #461, Duragloss UO (Ultimate Orange)

Interesting here, i wonder what the dilution would be for paint? Even if undiluted this is a great deal. I honestly like to use CG Strong Wash in replacement of TAW for paint. I honestly think there are stronger cleaners and cheaper than can almost compete with TAW for engines...example is Meg's SuperDegreaser and Majestic Solutions Super Green Stuff. If you are using a foam Cannon i would recommend MS SGS. Also have you tried Autoglym Powermax 3? This is great stuff...

Yeah, if the DG is safe for paint, it would be very cost effective.

I'm kinda hesitant to use anything that doesn't specifically say it's safe for use on paint. I have other APC's, but I'd like one that is marketed as specifically being safe for paint, like TAW and the Surf City. Maybe the Autoglym is? I haven't looked yet...
