Need a new mattress!?!?!?

Does Costco have them out on display for you to try? Can you return the mattress if you don't like it?

Costco often has deals for the Novaform, usually ranging from $50-$75 off. From what I've seen, the deal comes around about once per quarter. This is when you'll usually be able to buy it right from the store, but they come in a large box (can fit any SUV, no need for a truck) so there's no way for you to try it out. It's usually a Queen size also if you find it in the store, so if you need a different size you might have to order it via Costco.com. Costco.com ships out much quicker though than their ETA, so the wait is never bad.

Here's a well-known "secret" that many Costco customers do not know. You can return almost all their items (excluding computers, some electronics, etc.) at any period of time. You simply cannot beat Costco's unconditional return policy. So if in 10 years you're not satisfied with your bed, you can take your bed back and get a full refund, even without a receipt (they'll look up your order and give you a store credit for the full amount you paid). While their deals are not always the cheapest, if I had the choice I always prefer buying it from Costco for the peace of mind that I can always take it back. Even on items like iPods, digital cameras, and TV's where it's now only a 6 month return period, no one else can beat that return policy.

If you're not sure if a memory foam mattress is the right bed for you, try going to a mattress store where they have a variety of beds that you can lay on and try out. And don't just sit on it and bounce a few times. Lay down as if you were going to fall asleep and see how it feels for an extended period.

From what I've tried out, you have to get one of the more expensive Tempurpedics (they come in a variety of quality) to compare to the cheap, base-model Novaforms. Since then, the Novaforms have also come out with different quality models.

It is sensitive to temperature (to a degree) and one thing I was worried about was that it would be too hot during the summer (from absorbing body heat) but I've never had a problem with the bed feeling too hot to sleep on. I live in SoCal though so while it gets hot sometimes during summer nights, we don't really have an issue with it being humid. Your body heat will make the bed softer as you sleep through the night.

IMO, your weight might have a bigger impact on how the bed feels to you. For a really small person, I've been told it feels like a hard sack of flour in the beginning. I'm a bigger guy so for me, the first night I slept on a foam mattress, when I first laid down and closed my eyes, it felt like my body was rising and floating in mid-air. It was a good and different feeling from what I was used to with normal spring mattresses. For the first time in a long time, I woke up with no back pain. I don't think I can go back to regular mattresses again. Every time I sleep at a hotel now my back kills me when I wake up.

My business partner owns a mattress store franchise (That Mattress Place - Sealy, Simmons, Tempur-Pedic, Dormia, Englander). I bought a latex foam mattress from him 6 months ago and honestly it was the best 2gs I've ever spent!

We went shopping yesterday and tried everything. My wife and I couldn't agree on anything until we tried a latex mattress (Sealy Springfree) WOW!!! Anyone have any experience with a latex mattress?

danponjican, which one did you get?

I switched to a Select Comfort bed back in '96 after I blew out my back. 12 years later, it feels the same as when I bought it, and the dual adjustment is a godsend for those who have a spouse/SO that prefer a softer/firmer mattress.

My $0.02,

Tort

+ 1 on Select Comfort, love being able to adjust it when I injure/pull somthing after working out.

Thanks danponjican!!! I'll have to find a local retailer to try it out and if we like it I will definitely contact Bill. Thanks again.

Oh, I'm loving the latex pillow. What a difference!!!

If you have the means.... try a Hastens Mattress.

In the same boat, tried every mattress available to me . Even considered a mattress *sight unseen* but one test on the Hasten, and it sold itself. It's not cheap though....

I just sleep on the floor occasionally to get my back into order. Usually does the trick unless you sleep on your side and wake up with a crick in your neck.

After our Au Pair brought a bed bug back from NYC, we decided to throw away the custom mattress we had made for her bed. My wife found a replacement, full size, memory foam mattress at overstock.com for $400, shipped for $1. Normally sells for around $1200. Those interested in a memory foam mattress might check out overstock. It arrived yesterday - seems of decent quality. It has to sit for 24-48 hours while it uncompresses so she hasn't tried it yet.

We absolutely love our Tempurpedic.

Avoid Sealy traditional matresses at all costs. Will last you about 6 months and then be shot. I honestly don't know how that company is in business. Utter crap.
