Nascar, 2010.....

The Shoot Out just ended - caution near the end, three laps to go...goes green, one lap and BANG! A BIG pile of crinkled metal from about the fourth spot back.

Cars will be faster this year but since they are so closely matched, I expect almost all races to be a big bunch-up beginning to end. Really changes the strategy.

Regards,
GEWB

Yes, terriffic ending. I just love me some car crashes :Snowman:

What? You mean I have some NASCAR buddies here? :Dancing Dot:

Well, if the season continues as it has begun...Then yes, count me among your one of your Buddies :Boxing:

Danica Patrick is coming to Dover this year for NASCAR :drool5::drool5::drool5:

Pat, whats good and bad for me is my neighbor could be Danica's twin, maybe even a little cuter. Kinda hard to keep that whole lust after your neighbor thing I beleive in :cursing:

Count me in for ordering some Danica gear 4 sure :Gift:

I actually prefer watching a race with no cautions - much more interesting to see strategy play out between drivers and crews.

For two years one of the most beautiful women in the world worked next to me so I can relate.

That race last night was pretty good, lots of passing, lead changes, etc. Way better than last year.

Danica did quite well in her race, I was impressed. Hopefully she runs the Nationwide at Indy because I'm planning on going to that this year.

I enjoy Nascar a lot more now that it's in high def and I also enjoy F1 racing. I wish Danika well - the first woman to win an IRL event (out of 81 starts) she is one focused person. I could do without the media darling coverage, but it may help to bring in new fans. Nascar means spring is just a couple months away  not to slight Punxsutawney Phil.

I'm a big Danica fan. There are some guys on another forum I visit, who absolutely HATE DANICA!!! They want her to fail miserably.

I can't understand it... I guess it's just male ego.

For the guys who want Danica to fail....

GO DANICA... YOU ROCK!!!!:rockon::cornut:

(BTW, she'll be going significantly SLOWER in the Sprint Cup cars that she was in the Indy cars... I've seen her hit 220 on the back stretch!)

Nascar can be fun, if they really back off and let the drivers race and not worry so much about political correctness, sponsors every 5 seconds, and please get rid of those stupid questions they ask over and over everytime a drive gets out of his wrecked car. The best answer I ever heard was from Ward Burton who remarked - my car's tore all to sh!t, Amen bro.

I like Danica too, the SI issue was awesome and she has a lot of driving talent. That said, how come nobody gushes about Ashley Force, she's good looking and my God - drives a Funny Car, damn, that is scary as hell knowing you're going 0 to 300 in what? 4 seconds? But then there isn't much TV time for NHRA like it should be. OK, off soap box

As a long time nascar fan (I remember when they raced actual stock cars) I was really disappointed last year. I think the restrictor plates are killing the sport. I hate the fact that championships are decided in these huge wrecks. These guys work so hard all year long to position themselves for contention only to be destroyed in a 20 car pileup. I'm not to thrilled either about the multicar team dominance in the sport. It seems an unfair advantage to these single guys struggling to be competitive. There are so many guys that run 20-42 every week that deserve a better chance, not to mention mixing it up for the same old group of winners. No doubt the teams have some great drivers and would likely win some anyway, but it would diversify it a bit. I also am not a fan of the "chase" format either. Last year I threw the remote at the TV during the Darlington wreck as Martin was eliminated from any chance of winning the champ... through no fault of his own. Plus watching the "champion" Johnson ride around at the back of the field all day to make sure he wasn't wrecked made me sick. Don't get me wrong, I understood his strategy, but it was not racing. If I paid for the ticket to watch that race I would have demanded a refund. At the time I swore I was done with Nascar and all that BS. I did not watch another race for the rest of the year!

Time has passed and it's spring again and I have cooled down a bit. I'll probably follow it again this year and try one more time, but for me the shine has really wore off. I'm hoping the larger plates will help the racing at the superspeedways and hoping Martin will get a chance to win a champ. before he retires.

Oh yeah while I'm ranting I hope I don't offend anyone but I don't understand why everyone thinks Junior is so great. He was always represented as a great driver hurt by circumstance or team problems etc. Then he got on with the best team in the sport and they said now he had to put up or shut up. Well that team finishes 1,2,3 and 25th, with Jr. in 25th. If that doesn't finally close this argument that he is a good driver, but not a great one I don't know what will. Nothing against him personally, just sick of the hype, everytime he makes a pass the commentators have to tell you that the "Jr. nation is on it's feet". I never liked his dad, but had huge respect for him as a driver and had tears in my eyes when he finally won at Daytona. But he earned my respect by his actions and jr. has yet to show me that same type of talent.

man nothing gets me so riled up as these Nascar threads.....I gotta go take my BP medication:cursing:

Whoooa! Don't sugar-coat it!!!! LOL

I agree (to a point). In a nutshell, all Professional "Sports" are all about the money. I can hardly stand to watch the NFL and NBA, the endzone dances, primal chest pounding, ME, ME, ME!!!!! Today's athelete doesn't want more money! He WANTS ATTENTION!!!! TV TIME!

NASCAR is becoming the same way, but I just choose to ignore some if that in NASCAR because I like racing so much.

That was my small rant.

Uuhhhh, does this mean you don't want all my Jr. gear I am getting rid of

You and I, see eye-to-eye on Nascar! The only way I can watch a Nascar race is with my DVR remote in hand. The Nascar Truck series is a better racing format, IMHO.

Go Mark Martin! :Dancing Dot:

I've said this since the "chase" came out - change the point system to:
100 for winning
25 for the pole
20 for leading the most laps
2-35th place get 5 point increments
same number of points for 36th place to 43rd

see the logic here, every race is must win, no more cruising for points, and take the rule book. burn it, write the next one on a cocktail napkin and race!

Ooooooooh, the simplicity! But the NASCAR corporate minds have made it much too complicated!:banghead:

so I watched the Duel qualifiers and I have to say I am cautiously optimistic! The larger restrictor plates really made the racing better. There may still be hope for me. We will see how the race goes Sunday......................

So I watched the "patched" Daytona and the last 2 (the final this time DW) laps were great. Maybe 500 is too long, I have a short attention span, or we need more nudity somewhere in this sport- like topless cheerleaders for each team. I don't know if I can commit my butt to the couch for another marathon of cars going around and around. It's disturbing when you're comfy, cold beer in hand and all you can think is what a waste of time this is.

I thought the race was really good :Swordfight:

- it was the track that used up three hours of time! :cursing:

Next week is California, and if I recall, no restrictor plates. :cornut:

I know that there a lot of people out there who love Nascar, but I just don't get it. To me, it's just one big left turn. LOL:Dancing Dot:
