I manage an IT Development Team in Philadelphia for a Global Publishing Company. We outsourced some of our development functions to India.
Earlier this year I made a trip to India, and it was a big culture shock! You had to be VERY careful around water and could not eat anything that may have been rinsed in water: Fruit, uncooked vegetables, ice, etc… You had to brush your teeth with bottled water, and I actually taped my mouth shut in the shower because of have a habit of rinsing my mouth out (yea, I know TMI). I packed a small suitcase with food, Jack Daniels, and Diet Coke J Our hotel in New Delhi was located ~ 15 miles from the office. The commute to/from the office could take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours. There were virtually no traffic laws –goats, cows, people, mopeds, cars, bikes, carts, etc… would line up in as many lanes as you could fit on the road and they would position for ‘inches’. The first 2 days I had to stare at the floorboards because I was positive that I would die in a car accident.
Fortunately I traveled with another development manager (Steve) who is based in the UK. Steve writes for a few European magazines on the side, and has excellent photography skills. Here are a few of the shots captured during our trip to New Delhi and Bangalore. Enjoy J
