My take on a few Griot's products

Speed Shine -- Griot's carnauba based QD spray. I absolutely love this stuff. It's $9.99 for 35 ounces. It is super slick, has great cleaning ability, and refuses to streak over carnuabas. I have not tried it over sealants, as it does have a small (<1%) carnauba content so I prefer to keep it with the waxed surfaces of the GTO. It has a pleasant smell, and I feel it doesn't add too much bling, or take any away, from the surface. It doesn't have any alcohol content either. I think this is a real winner.

Car Wash -- This stuff is really nice, too. It's super slick, creates lots of suds, has great cleaning action, and most importantly, is quite gentle on the LSP, even carnaubas. It is one of my very favorites, along with SS&S and NXT (which I only use over a durable sealant).

Long Lasting Tire Dressing -- This stuff has held up great for me on the work truck. It lasts a few washes, and you decide the shine, satin or sheen. It's a thick liquid that makes application a breeze, and it does not sling off. It's a very nice tire dressing, but prbobably not quite good enough to beat out Z-16 which is still my favorite, although Griot's is much easier to work with than my older, runny Z-16.

Interior Cleaner -- A no frills, no scent added, clear APC for interior surfaces. I use it on the dash, to clean leather seats prior to conditioning, and for cleaning carpets. I like it better than some other APC's because it has zero fragrance, none of the strong chemical/solvent smell some of the APC's I've tried have. Another product I really like.

Vinyl & Rubber Dressing -- This stuff is ridiculously priced, but I got an 8 ounce bottle (for $10) to try out. I'm using it on the dash of my work truck which sits outside 24/7. I've had it on there for three weeks now and there has been no visible deterioration or fade of the nice gloss it gives. It seems to be a very nice product, but I refuse to pay that much for something that is probably no better than 303, a very similar product. I prefer Poorboy's NL for my interiors.

Best of Show Wax -- I'm kind of torn on this one. It leaves a very nice, super clear finish and makes my black motorcycle look, well, VERY black. It has a sealant-esque look to it, but also has some fillers in it that really help out on darker colors. It has a pleasant scent (can't put my finger on it... almost peanut butter???). However, for most people, the application/removal of this wax will probably turn them off of it. It's hard to apply as it starts setting up very quickly, creating a very hard barrier that makes the applicator snag on. Same goes for wiping it off. Since it dries so hard, it is a pain to wipe off, UNLESS you spritz each panel with a small amount of either distilled water, or I have been using Speed Shine. This makes the BoS wipe off rather easily. I have a feeling it's going to be a pretty durable wax, although others have disagreed.

Under Carriage Spray -- This is another very nice product for wheel wells of larger SUVs and trucks. It can make a mess on the driveway, but other than that, it's nice and durable and doesn't attract dust.

Leather Care -- This is another product that I won't be ordering more of. It has some cleaners in it which is nice, but it always leaves a sticky/tacky feeling to my leather that drives me crazy, no matter how hard I buff dry after application. I like Z-10 and Sonus a lot better.

Spray on Wax -- This is a nice product that I can't quite compare with any other product. It's not really a QD as it doesn't have much cleaning ability, and it's definitely not an LSP as it doesn't last more than a couple of washes. It's a base wax enhancer, like UPPS is to UPP. It was designed to be used over their new Paint Sealant, but I have been using it while drying and it adds some nice slickness and gloss. I really like it, but it's a bit expensive for extensive use at ~$13 for 35 ounces. Too bad because I would probably continue using it as it wipes clean very easily with no streaks.

Not detailing related, but their Hand Cleaner is awesome. It's gritty, and leaves your hands really soft and smells like oranges. Yeah I'm kind of a sissy :getdown

Anyways, I have been using GG products a lot lately and thought I'd share my thoughts in case anyone was interested. They have some really nice products, and some really overpriced ones, too. I will always have some Speed Shine and Car Wash on hand, plus the Hand Cleaner for those post-oil change hand cleanings.

Other misc. items that I thought were really neat were their Blue Detail Sponges for applying tire/trim dressing without getting your hands dirty, and the mini red wax pad with elastic strap on the holder... this is awesome for waxing my motorcycle, and around pillars/trim/license plate on my cars.

Thanks for sharing your opinion on these.....I was window shopping on their site last night....this helps a bunch.

Thanks.

Thanks for posting the reviews. My first major supply purchase was from Griots a few months ago...getting back into good car-care for our family vehicles. I really like the car-wash, sheepskin mit, and speed shine....the wheel and rubber cleaner work well also. I didn't think the window cleaner did such a great job...I prefer Invisible Glass.

Remember the letter from Griot's that was posted on here a few years back asking (can't remember who it was now) to stop buying from them becasue they had returned everything they ever bought? That was so dang funny...

(not saying you should return anything, I just think about that letter whenever Griot's comes up).

Can't say I do. Accumulator?

I've heard from others that their window cleaner doesn't do such a good job. I was curious about the rubber cleaner and wheel cleaner, but I've heard the rubber cleaner is awfully mild and the wheel cleaner is supposed to be nice, but I think I'll stick with P21S Gel.

I plan on trying the carnauba paste wax next.

My continuing Griots orders:

Can you tell me more about the paste wax? Application, removal, durability, look, etc.

No, it was somebody else (forget who it was). My experience with significant returns was a little better. They still let me shop there (gee thanks guys  ) but they won't send me catalogs. I keep asking about this, they keep saying they'll send 'em, but they never do. It's OK, I get one with each order anyhow.

I agree with most of BlackSunshine's product review, at least for the GG products I've used (I didn't like BOS though, but they might've changed it since then too).

The V&R Dressing fades pretty nicely over time.

The Leather Care works better on some leathers than on others.

Walnuts- IMO their window cleaner works well for final clean-ups, but not for really grungy glass. Funny, but I really like it for some window jobs but really *don't* for others :nixweiss

Broken record: IMO everybody oughta get their small BHBs (pn 15520) for washing nooks and crannies- indispensable, I couldn't wash without 'em.

I agree with most of that review, though I like the Leather Conditioner. For the money, I still stick with 303 and Meg's APC.

Have you tried the Wheel cleaner? I like that a lot, however I dilute mine 50/50. For friends and family, I use EO AtoZ (or all in one, whatever it's called now) ;)

I have not tried the wheel cleaner but I have heard good things. I'm perfectly happy with P21S Gel for my grungy (lots of brake dust) chrome plated wheels on the Z06 , and silver painted alloys on the GTO.

I just used the wheel cleaner the first time yesterday, expecting it to be a lot like the regular P21S (on Tom P.'s suggestion). I was pleasantly surprised to find it has a pineapple fragrance. The wheel I was using it on was pretty clean, so I can't comment too much on effectiveness yet, IIRC the pricing was pretty nice (bought it a while ago).

Black Sunshine, the characteristics of that hand cleaner sound pretty much like this: http://www.gojo.com/product/product.asp?productid=4 , I'd bet you'd find them pretty similar and can find that GoJo at Pep Boys and maybe in the supermarket...gotta imagine it's a lot more affordable than GG.

Mike, I was waiting for someone to chime in about the Hand Cleaner. I knew it had to be rebottled something or another. I'll definitely give that a try as I go through a lot of the stuff. Thanks for the heads up!

I love the stuff. Much better than the GoJo of old that smelled like kerosene (or something) and would turn to soup if you left the top off.

I know I live in a cave and don't get out shopping too much, but when I was window shopping at Griot's I thought the procing was on the high side. Was it all just me?

Most of the Griot's pricing is insane. The wheel cleaner seems very reasonable, as did the clay and a few other items which may have been mentioned.

Some of their stuff is pretty ridiculous, but it seems like most of it is their garage accessories like the product supply cart and their creepers and stuff. I find a lot of their detailing products to be quite reasonable, except for the shipping rates. I guess I have ordered enough from them that now when I place an order online, I get a coupon in my package that's got for 15% off the next purchase when placed over the phone by a certain date. Their CSR's are very friendly and quite knowledgable in my experience with them.

I much prefer P21S Gel. I think it's much more effective.

I am a smoker and love the Window Cleaner ( love Clarity also). I only use window cleaner on inside glass.

GG Carnauba Paste.....I would rate less than Souveran and Victoria but more than PS21/S100 types.

BOS can be a bear unless the surface is clean..ie no glazes. I pretty much gave up on it.

Yeah, BOS can be a pain to work with, especially if you don't use a QD spritz for each panel. I'm going to be trying the paste wax soon.
