My Reutation Is Shot Here

Reputation

There's also a down side to these...

A member can issue only so many. If you hit that threshold you'll receive a message indicating you can't add to anyone's reputation until you receive some.....Today I'm at a standstill....

Since the transition the "like" feature was added to this forum. Prior to that DC only had the "red and green" buttons. Thanks for pointing this out

I'd say it matters because its from users not just post count.

It shows that people actually valued your opinion

Sorry to see that Dave :(

If that was generally true, yeah that's great. But unfortunately, as with any other forum, it tends to be somewhat of a popularity contest or brown nosing opportunity. I'm not saying each and every time, but anyone that has been on more than one forum knows this to be true.

Really? That's a big statement to make, unless you can back it up with some statics. I'm sure one could put up an argument that some people develop friendships and would give rep points just for the heck of it.

I've been posting on various forum for many subject for at least ten years. I can't say that I've ever felt that it was a popularity contest for people to give me rep points.

When this site was Detail City, the rep points where given ( at least the ones I gave) was based on if I agreed with the poster and felt it was good advice, something I would have said myself.

That's great that you did that, kudos. But, not everyone out there is just like you, so there's always a variance. If you want to think it's a big statement, that's cool with me, but I won't bother getting into statistics, it's just not that important to me. You shouldn't take forum stuff too seriously.

If you are on enough forums for different things, you will notice that most, at least that I've seen, don't even use the like/rep stuff, now there must be a reason for that.

Your personal observation of most forums is different than mine. no harm no foul. Do I take this seriously? For this site if I see someone giving car care advice that could result in harm to the car. Yes I'm going to try and help or throw caution in the way.

Its a choice of the web master or owner of the site to have the "like" or "rep" function.

Take few seconds and re-read my OP and what I said following that. In short I was wondering why they had disappeared.:D

Yeah, no doubt, my only comment was why does it matter, but to each his own. And of course everyone is here to learn and get/give advice when applicable, we all have to start somewhere. I just never personally cared about the whole rep/like thing, but everyone is different.

IMHO this is a forum where a lot of people come for quick/accurate information. That said reputation points indicate wether a person has given good advice or is full of garbage. (in the past)

Look up "acrylic conditioner"

Sorry but that isn't entirely true. It simply means someone liked what they said or are friends with that person, or other reasons, including if it was actually good advice. Based on your logic, if two people disagree, the person with the most points wins?

Welcome Ron.

Ron, I fully agree. It's to bad that that is no longer the case. I feel Like I try and give out good usable advice but now others only use the "like" in place the "rep". So only to most of the original members do the rep points mean anything.
