Yippeeeeee...

I picked up my Makita 9227 rotary today after a long thought out process between the Makita 9227 and Dewalt 849. But what really helped me make my purchase was the the weight, AMP, bail handle, and it came with a carrying bag, two pads, velcro plate, and pad centering tool. I paid $208 and change out the door.

zesty-man...I saw your dad as I was driving out from the driveway of the establishment where I purchased my Makita 9227. :D

Just in time for a scheduled detail this Saturday on a 2000 Toyota Corolla. I will start at 8:00am and should be done by 12:00pm now that I have the Makita 9227. :)

My new plan of attack is to,

1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Wash
4. DACP with Makita 9227 w/yellow pad
5. SSR1 with Makita 9227 w/white pad
6. PwC with PC w/black pad
7. EX by hand with mf applicator pad
8. Natty's Paste Wax by hand with PVA applicator

Dress the tires with Bold n Bright
Dress exterior trim with Trim Restorer
Dress interior trim with Natural Look
Vacuum interior

This detail should pay for the Makita 9227 rotary. :D

Ranney, post some pics after you're done, and let us know your impressions. Did you get it from Lowes, Home Depot, or a small power tool shop?

Too bad Costco doesn't carry that.

Hi ben54,

I picked up the last one from Slim's Power Tools this afternoon. I had called this morning and they said they had four so you can see the demand for these units. The Dewalt 849 was sold out but they were selling theirs for $239.

Sure, I will definitely take pics and give my impressions on the Makita 9227.

With Aloha,
Ranney :)

Ranney...

Congrats on the purchase!!! I'm sure you'll love it.

One tip I'm sure you know about...Make sure to tape off the front windshield when doing the door and rear window (along with any trim) when doing the trunk. This will save a lot of time from cleaning any sling or splat from the rotary. :)

The Makita is a rotary, as it turns in a circular fashion and is very dangerous. While the PC vibrates in a random orbit. It jiggles basically and is very safe.

Ranney are you going to practice with the machine?

Hi Woob,

Yes, on the 2000 Toyota Corolla this Saturday. :lmfao

Kidding aside...I think I will keep the speed around 1000-1200. Which should be safe as long as I keep moving the rotary and I will tape off the edges as Chris Y. had recommended.

Do you have any suggestions?

With Aloha,
Ranney :)

:lol He he, when I get my Dewalt I'm going to take a power cord with me and try to find a parking lot light with an AC outlet, I still see those around sometimes, and experiment on the car parked closest to it :D Sure would be better to experiment on some random junker parked at the mall before I use it on my own cars ;) j/k

Seriously, Ill just try to get some scrap parts, until then I'll just get the rotary to have :bigups

I certainly enjoy and have good use of mine. Nothing like a rotary for the heavy scratches....when used with appropriate caution! :D

Edit: Truth is the only reason I posted was to see my avatar. This is the first time I've been able to get one to work. Thank the puter gods for XP (and the detailing gods for PP, and PWP and EX-P and.....did I forget anything?)

Your new Makita

The BIG R!..

Congrats on choosing your new RO-ZILLA as a 9227!

Have the same one too!!

I tape all molding, emblems, door gaps/hood gaps/trunkgaps as well. Look at it this way.. tape is cheap.. Re-paint IS NOT!

For your first use, use ONLY a polish pad and mild polish. Megs SFP by rotary does well. DACP will work faster, but leave a bit of a haze when worked, but that can be resolved by SFP and other milder polishes. My final polish is Menzerna FP. Don't think PC type chemicals..(DACP first, then SFP etc) Think in reverse, milder first, then more aggressive chems if first does not work.

Enjoy your new RO-ZILLA!

Deanski

Hi Deanski,

Thank you for your congratulations. Yes, I'm now one of the big boys in town. :D

I like your suggestions and will modify my plan of action. I will use a polishing pad with a milder polish. And most definitely will be taping everything up.

Thank you & Aloha,
Ranney :)

R0-ZILLA

Aloha BIG R!

You're quite welcome, and glad to know you have one! :bigups

Good deal.. switch to milder first.. Rotary can inflict quick results with very mild polishes. Too aggressive can lead to holograms, buffer burns etc.

Anytime I run a rotary, I tape the snot out of a car. Sure it's more work, but protects those areas in case I slip.

Sharp corners and edges you also have to careful. Not much paint on those areas!

You'll love the 9227! With some edge pads, you can become more proficiant and then for-go the tape in most areas!

FYI: Yellow plush towels doing well.. Now in the trunk of my SC430!

Regards

Deanski
