Okay, well I violated cardinal sin #1, I didn't take any before, during or after shots. But, I had a little time this morning, so I wanted to try my hand at removing some fairly bad hazing/swirling on my wife's XC90 Sport's hood. They gave it a "Delivery Detail" when we bought it and they did a horrible job on the hood. It's been hazy with minor scratches since the day we picked it up, it's bugged the crap out of me.
So, I've been wanting to do the whole car, but haven't had the chance yet, so I thought I'd give it a shot, just on the hood since that's the worst part.
I started with Griot's Clay Bay using BF Clay lube, just the hood and the clay bar was junk, so I can't wait to do the rest of the car. Then, using my PC 7424, I put on the LC Orange Kompressor pad and applied Zaino PC and did 1/4 of the hood at a time. After removing the ZPC, I put on the LC White Kompressor pad and applied BF Gloss Enhancing Polish. I did half the hood at a time and there was a VERY distinct line right down the middle after this step, it would have been a perfect photo op. :banghead: Then, I finished up with BF Wet Diamond and HOLY CRAP, what a difference. The hazing was what bugged me the most and it's 100% gone along with any swirl that was there and even a few scratches that I didn't think would come out.
I am so excited and can't wait to do the rest of the car when I get time. Thanks everyone for the help on this site, I have never had the stones to really "polish" to the point where you cut into the clear coat and then work your way back up to a sealant. I've just always thought I'd screw it up and have to head to the local body shop for a new paint job. But, with all the information on here, along with great product suggestions, I'm now armed and dangerous in my Volvo garage!!
Thanks again everyone and when I do the full detail, I'll remember to take pics.
