My First Experience with FMJ

Just to lay the foundation, I am a driveway detailer, only doing my own cars and friends and family. Yesterday I gave my wife's 2006 Accord (Alibaster Silver Metalic) a deep down spring cleaning. I washed with Megs Gold Class, clayed with Megs clay and polished using a 50/50 mix of IP and FP with a PC. I like the mix because it finishes down perfect and it doesnt dust as bad as IP by itself. I purchased my first bottle of FMJ pretty much because of the praise it always received on this forum and others. I applied the FMJ using a red LC pad on my PC. It went on so thin and evenly, and came off rediculously easy. I LOVE this stuff! And if your familiar with the Accords there are two black plastic pillar panels between the front and back door (one on the front door and one on the back door), FMJ finished these back to a beautiful matte finish again. I couldnt be happier with this product. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) it started raining as soon as I finished so I put it in the garage just in time, but I didnt get to take pics. I highly recommend this product as most others do as well. :notworthy:

How long should I wait to put the second coat on with a synthetic like FMJ?

Thanks for reading!

In general, the longer you can wait after application (up to 24 hours) the better the initial coat should bond to the paint. I have applied sealants back to back and never had a problem, but it probably wasn't the 'best' way to do it.

I would think after 4 hours, even in a very humid environment, the majority of the curing has occurred, and you could apply a second coat with very little loss in benefit. I personally apply a coat after every wash for the first couple of weeks, then call it quites.

It will not hurt anything to apply it is sooner then 4 hours, you will likely not receive all of the benefits of a second coat.

This is a new one on me - can you mix an aggressive and final polish together and not result in some leaving behind hazing or micro marring?

BTW - I also am a fan of Full Molecular Jacket - (yeah didnt have to spell that out but I think its a very cool name)

Do we have a following here with FMJ? Love it! Sometimes it doesn't get the love I think it deserves. I just bought a fresh bottle, my third. My Jetta loves it too! :D

I read about this on another forum and it help with IP dusting. It certainly loses a little of the cut but it makes it a little more workable. If I have an area that needs a little more cut I switch pads and just use IP.

I am in on the FMJ bandwagon!

Don't forget to use Menzerna High Gloss Acrylic Shield with your FMJ. The High Gloss Acrylic Shield contains the same super-slippery, high gloss, acrylic polymer used in FMJ and every time you apply a layer of High Gloss Acrylic Shield you add a micro-fine super slippery gloss finish that increases depth of shine and extends the durability of the initial polymer coating. You have to give it shot folks, it just work's perfectly with your FMJ.
