First of all, I'd like to thank all those of you who participate in this forum - the information, experience and technique that's readily available to all here is enormous! I'm so thankful that you all share your skills with one another - I've learned a ton reading here.

I've been doing detailing for myself as well as family/friends, but as time has progressed my skills have improved and my technique is far better, due in no small part to the information gained here.

Anyway, I wanted to share a detail I did recently.

My wife took delivery of her new 2010 Acura TSX Tech V6, and as usual, we received the car with dealer-installed swirls and scratches.

I went after the car with the following process and got some pretty good results out of her. Sadly I didn't take (or have the wife take) enough photos, but there are a couple showing the damage and a few of the finished product. I'll be working on my photo-taking skills....

Hope you enjoy...

Process and Chemicals

Wash:

  • Dawn (to strip dealer-applied wax)
  • Griot's Garage Car Wash (following polishing step)

Wheels/Tires:

  • Griot's Garage Rubber Cleaner (agitated with stiff brush)
  • Griot's Garage Wheel Cleaner (dwell for 1-2 mins, then agitated with soft brush and separate MF wash mitt
  • Griot's Garage Vinyl & Rubber Dressing (applied with Blue detailing sponge)

Polish:

  • Griot's Garage Machine Polish 3 applied with Griot's Garage Random Orbital machine and Griot's orange polish pad

Sealant:

  • Griot's Garage Paint Sealant applied with aforementioned machine and Griot's red foam pad

LSP:

  • Griot's Garage Best of Show liquid wax, applied by hand with Meguiar's Gold Class foam pad

Glass:

  • Stoners IG

And now a few photographs...

Some of the dealer-provided damage prior to 50/50:

Busily masking the vehicle prior to polishing:

After a quick pass with Machine Polish 3:

Not bad - I went after a few more problematic areas with an additional pass of the MP3, but overall a single application was sufficient to remove the swirl marks.

Busy polishing the passenger-front quarter panel:

Starting to look pretty good:

those new tsx are something else.... remember a black car is a fulltime job. thats a good example of how a new car can look even better.

Car looks great! Nice work!

A little off topic but how do you like the car? I have a 2008 TSX and my only complaint is the lack of power. The new V6 is appealing but I worry it will throw off the handling a little...I do drive rather aggressively after all. :D

...and let’s see some more pics of the R1! :2thumbs:

Thanks to all for your kind comments!

I love the car - it's an exceptional driver - far more than I expected from a FWD vehicle. The V6 is quite potent, with good power throughout the range and a great engine note to boot. I don't notice any reduction in handling, which is crisp and responsive regardless of what I throw at it.

Overall, a great vehicle with which my wife and I are extremely pleased.

Thanks! My lease is up in 16 months and I don't know what I want next but I've been very happy with my '08 so the new V6 is definitely on the list.

Thanks for sharing the pics too....makes me realize how much I missed mine. I had an '05 in Raven. :(

Gorgeous car. It takes a true perfectionist to want to detail a brand new vehicle and make it 100% perfect. Nice work.

Wow - lots more positive feedback than I expected for my first C&B - thanks everyone for the kind comments on the work, and on the garage.

My garage is nothing compared to many of yours, but it does the trick for now.
