My battle against Orange Peel, Altezza (IS300) No 56k!!!!

I should have chimed in earlier, but... wow. amazingly beautiful job! I know from experience how much fun wetsanding black paint is (tho I was working a base/clear combo). SO satisfying to see that final reveal as you polish down the dull haze... Beautiful work...

I'm confused by the photos, tho - it looks like you started on the passenger side rear door, then went back the next day and redid the whole passenger side again?

Thanks for sharing. GREAT!

Thanks guys!

Here's a link of a video of the engine noise... You need Quicktime.

To say its loud is an understatement, lol!

:LOLOL Sounds like someone screaming in ecstasy when it was reved!

Excellent, excellent results. 2 weeks is a lot of time to devote to your car's finish but it looks like it really paid off in the end!

Thanks guys for all the comments... i'm loving the finish... its turning heads like no tomorrow :D

animes2k - yes. I tested an area on the door jam first. Then proceeded on the worst panel of the car. Rear passanger door.

After that you see me do the rest of the passanger side minus the rear door.

Following from that, i bought 2000 grit, yes... i did it with 1200grit first but could't compound out some fine scratch's... So proceeded with 2000 grit on that side, safe to say it didn't go thin!!!

I will take some real close up shots for you guys this weekend, will wash it and apply another coat of Pinnacle Signature series wax...

Hehe.. i've had some very funny comments.... little to rude to say :LOLOL

I could have done the job in half the time... the weather was up and down like a yoyo all week :hairpull

Just fantastic. I really appreciate the effort in putting all those pictures in with the story.

It helps newbs like me put a face on the terminology and technique. Thanks!

Just read this thread! Fantastic finish! Congratulations!

My wife has a metallic finish dark blue Daihatsu 4 trak and the OP on it is very similar to to what you had!

You've given me the confidence to try and sort this out on her car. I assume that you must have had a lot of work hand rubbing down with the 2000 grit before doing the polishing?

I wonder when I'll get a good day to start - this weekend is supposed to be wet up here.

Again well done!

Quick bump...

Its winter...

Been using Poorboys products... So far not bad!

Orange Peel

The coat looks like a peel of an orange i.e. small little indentations uniformly throughout a panel. Makes for a wavey type look. It's found in >95% of all painted cars the past 10-years and seems that more and more high end cars are also suffering from it as well.

The only 2 comments I would make to anyone thinking of trying wetsanding their vehicle based on this thread is sand in 1 direction only to make it easier to remove the sanding marks. Going in 2 or 3 directions makes it more difficult to buff out and secondly, do not start with anything less than 2000 grit. You can spot correct with 1500 or 1200 but definitely do not do entire panel unless absolutely needed.

I guess it's 3 comments, be very very careful around "edges" as they paint is much thinner on an edge than a perfectly flat surface. Avoid sanding any edges.

By the way, way awesome work!!!

Fantastic work!!!!

Just up the road from me too! I work in MK (Rooksley) so if i see ya i'll give you a wave!

You'll have to teach me know to wetsand someday - your bloody great!!! lol.

Thanks guys.

Its had several coats of Klasse SG. Which was topped with Pinnacle sig series wax...

Since i've been using Nattys Blue paste wax... have probably applied 3-4 coats over the last 2-3 months... not been applied for 3 weeks, and i'm happy with the beeding :)

As paco says.... be careful.... u need some balls if u haven't attempted this thing before... i rec' u don't only if u can test on a small area first.

@ dino... no probs, i get lots of waves, so no probs hehe :D

Man you've got HUGE BALLS!! Teriffic work on your car. Pinnacle Souveran topped over Natty's Blue would be my suggestions for you.
