Minivan Detail on my Birthday!

My parents were in town over the weekend to celebrate my B-Day, so I decided to clean up their mini-van.

It has 80K on the clock, and sees a tunnel wash about once a month. They tar and chip many of the roads near my parents, so there were plenty of rock chips, and tons of tar to deal with.

Process Used:

Wash:

Poorboys Bug Squash & SS&S

2 cans of terminator (removed about 70% of the tar)

4oz of Poorboys clay. Used bug squash 3:1 mix & a cap of SS&S as lube, and it worked well on the tar.

Tires/Wheels:

A2Z and S&R, dressed with BnB

Wells:

Costco APC 3:1 mix x 2 (and they still look dirty)

Paint:

Finish Kare 330 mini-buff @ 1400 (x 2 on a few areas)

Finish Kare 303 Glaze @ 1200

OCW x 1

During my rinse process, I noticed that the 2 x OCW that I applied to the van last Christmas looked like it was still alive!

Here’s a before of the front end:

After (sun going down, but you can still see the improvement)

A few more afters the next morning…

Holy cow, nice work. I know that mini vans can take some time to do (my wife has one) and any time a detailer has to use two cans of ANYTHING you he's been working hard!

Nice job, especially when they come to visit for your birthday.
I'm sure your mom and dad were quite pleased.

P.S.
A belated Happy Birthday

Thanks!

They know my OCD will flare up if I have to look at a dirty/swirled up ride in my driveway. My Dad offered to take the van home and return with his truck and boat. Nice.

It took 3+ hours to remove the TAR & clean the rims. The wells are still caked with TAR & stuck on debrit.

I was impressed with the FK polish/glaze/sealer. I don't think I spent more than 2 hours polishing it out -which is quick for me.

So how do you like Tarminator and the FK products overall? Detail looks fantastic! Definitely need Bug Squash!

A few replies to questions.

Tarminator - I think it does ok on light tar, but I've used better products on the heavy stuff.

So far I've been impressed with the FK products that I've tried (pink wax, #218, #2180, #425, #303, #325, and a few others.). IMO, the polish/glaze products are very easy to work with, produce a very nice looking finish, and have decent durability.

The car in the background is a STS.
