MF Pad Technique Question

I know that with MF pads you need to slow down the polisher speed to say 3-4 on a GG DA but what about pressure--do you still use 15-20 lbs of pressure when using a MF pad???

It all really depends on the hardness (or softness) of the clear coat, the level of correction you're trying to achieve, and the color of the car

I don't think speed matters with a MF pad. I think the important thing is to keep it clean and don't overwork it. As far as pressure goes, just enough to keep it stable and planted. Nothing excessive really.

Thanks David!!  I only mentioned speed as I've read too many stories of people delaminating pads by using higher speeds.   I'm going to give a B&S MF cutting pad a try with HD Polish on our VW's to see if it's less work than with the orange foam pad I'm now using.

Guess I've been lucky as I use higher speeds with my (Meguiar's) MF Cutting Pads and I apply pressure but not as much as with foam lest I distort/deflect/mash down the MF too much.  I think of it as "the MF material carries the cutting agent (compound) across the paint" and I want it to do that carrying in the most effective way.

Pressure GENERALLY will increase cut. To some degree, it plays a role. Even pressure is best. With a microfiber pad, the idea is that the fiber hairs are helping you level and round out the defects.  In this case, too much pressure will flatten the hairs and will reduce the amount of cut.  So too much pressure is not good. I would say nothing more than you would normally apply with a foam pad. Also remember to fluff up the hairs and clean the pad with every pass.
