Menzerna Ceramic paint polish

JustinTRW: IMO the FTG didn't add anything really. To be honest with the Ceramiclear polishes, make them your last step before sealant/wax. They really can't be beat as far as gloss, I wouldn't go over them with any glazes, go straight to LSP! Sorry, I can't comment on the filling of the swirls, the only time I used FTG was on the above Taurus and it was swirl free! I would be a little concerned about the durability over FTG as well. Because from what I understand FMJ and FTG are not made by Menzerna, but marketed underneath the name. IMO that would cause some issues, but you never know.

mochamanz: Great choice, I know it's expensive, but well worth it. I guess it's kind of like the Souveran of polishes. It works great but you do pay for it. I think one thing that people over look when they price it is the fact that it's 32oz. Sure it's pricey, but I love it and would pay for it again if I ever need more. And you are welcome for the pics, I know it's better to see than to hear about some things!

Burlyq: You have not used PO85RD? What the heck are you waiting for.

I've tested FTG briefly and it does a good job at muting the heavier swirls, just for the record. So I guess I have some experimenting to do this weekend. Thanks for the advice.

I know you can relate Cobra, remember last year when we had a year long summer in No Cal right, then this year I am so stocked up it isn't even funny, then the season was cht. Skinniest season in a long time for me, and to top it off I have enough product for two years, lol. Makes me think twice about buying a 45 dollar bottle of polish.

I will say that the results you got on that honda is the best I've ever seen and I can't wait to try it, but man I have to use up at least 1/4th of the compounds I have. To even complicate things further, I sold my matt and trailor because I'm moving to SF with my girlfriend and I have no where to put anything. I'm going to work for somebody because I just don't need the headache and my woman is the bread winner, lol. Let me say that again, it sounded good, my woman is the bread winner. Feels nice for once, she's great. Anyhow, I have a feeling when I try po85rd it will be my only polish. I really like Menzerna and I have never seen a car look that good. Seriously, I'm selling a cabinets worth of detailing products dirt cheap and I'll buy some of that stuff shortly. BTW, thanks for making me feel two inches tall Cobra, lol.

I just ordered the 85RD. Thanks everybody for the heads up !
You should've let me know you were interested in it. I'm local to you and would've gladly given you all you needed...

I need to do some extensive testing with both the 106 and 85 as I only messed around with the 85. I thought that was you Justin

Yes definitely no need for any kind of glaze with these "regal" polishes. Just get familar with them and allow them to completely remove the defects and enjoy that pure ,natural shine that is from the paint itself. :bow

Jet,

Is that you VB?

Bill,

I was very pleased with the level of defects on my black Benz. A family member took it to the dealership and they convinced her that they would wash it safely by hand. Result was the worst condition my car has ever been in, swirl wise.

It's a 2002 and has undergone two swirl removals already in it's lifetime. One was with Meguiar's #9, and one was with 3M FI-II with a white pad. My natural evolution has brought me from Meguiar's, to 3M, and now to Menzerna.

So I'm concerned about polishing my car too much. The surface definitely needs IP and in certain areas where it looks like they used a broom, I will need even more to remove the defects. Might even need an orange pad.

I've decided to definitely use PO85RD, as that's a fairly light polish. However, I'm torn about using IP to remove more clear coat to get out the heavier swirls. A glaze may round these scratches off a bit. Who knows.

If you're not using a rotary, I'd say you ought to be just fine. I've used IP on Mercedes SLs via PC and Cyclo. In fact, on the last SL I did which was a new Ceramiclear, I couldn't really get some random deeper swirls totally out to my liking using IP. The owner thought it was just fine and didn't seem to notice what I noticed was still there.

Seems to be a distirbing trend, having to do this once a year. I really should be screaming at my dealer. Any toweling marks I induce are very minor. I'd like to be doing it every three years instead.

I was also concerned about the other thing DavidB was talking about in his over polishing thread. I will not be in any danger of removing clear coat any time soon, but it I wonder if there is a perceivable loss in visible depth.

David spoke about getting a marring free surface that was very reflective, but not as deep because you removed so much clear coat.

Again, maybe I'm over reacting because I intend to keep the Merc for a long itme, but those were just my thoughts.

Maybe I will do a PO85RD this weekend and then do a proper swirl removal in a year or so.

Just remember that very high quality paints like those of Mercedes and Audi are made to last and can endure quite a bit of polishing.

That said, the best thing I can do to make the necessity to polish as seldom as possible is to go to unprecedented ( even) lengths to prevent marring before it happens. The real "biggie" is the extreme washing technique.

To me it's worth any perceived aggrevation and "too much" time required of it. My clear stays intact a lot longer than haphazardously washing the car.

No marks at all should be made from towels. If there are, the towel is not soft enough, not being washed correctly or some how defective.

I always use top notch MFs ( DF Towels, Microfibertech/Magic Towel and Pakshak) whenever one needs to come in contact with my paint. More cheap insurance.

With consistent, over the top Autopia care, the need to polish can be reduced significantly .

Regarding polishes though, those "PO twins" are truly incredible! :bow

Polishing with a PO85RD level polish on a yearly basis is not a big deal. I polish with a mild polish every 2-3 months, and so far I haven't had any problems. And my cars' seen 8 Maine winters, 107,000 miles, some pretty poor care in my pre-Autopian days (I cringe picturing "the ghost of detailing past" with some Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound and a paint-stained rag), and its still got pretty good depth (for a mediocre GM paintjob).

Now if you're using PG bimonthly, you might have a problem then :).

should I have ordered both polishes? I see they are refered to as "twins". Do I really need both of them? I thought I would "sneak in there" by using IP first, and following iwith the PO85RD .... is the "106 really needed? My idea is kind of like using stages.... IP,FP, PO85RD. Am I in error here?

Not sure if you're refering to FP or FPII. If you're refering to

FPII, I would go with IP, 106, then 85, or, IP, then 85. IMO,106

is not really needed. But since I lost my 85, 106 is what I use

in place of FPII.

IP/PO85RD should give you the same look as PO106FF except with a little more cut. Unless you work a lot on Cermaiclear paint, like Bill D, I think your fine with the IP/PO85RD combo. If you had the PO106FF it would save you a step, but I think i'd rather add an extra polishing step then shelling out another $50 bucks for a polish. Also for your stages I would cut out FP, PO85RD is pretty much the same polish except with a higher gloss level, no need to do the same polishing step twice.

I'm just calling them the "PO twins" because they both start off with the cryptic "PO" designation. The difference in the results between the two is not immediately obvious. I'd choose based on the cutting ability you need.

I have used IP and using a 50/50 ISA mist, have worked it a lot longer, with nice results. If I dont have to use FPll as a step, that is good news. One more question, if I understand correctly is PO85RD not a reducing polish? If so, should I use my PC, Cyclo, or rotory, and at what speeds? The cautionary information at properautocare.com has me wondering. Lucky for me, I have an old car I am going to either junk or part out....:buffing:

Thanks for the offer generous grt1today ! I appreciate that, my order is on the way though.. :) Where are you located ?:bounce Weird, we went from winter to August in a few days here locally.....Yesterday high 80's, forecast for today ,(Friday) low 90's; Sunday my deck was white with thick hail.... thunder , lightning.... what gives?

**Well I did some searching today and I have finally come up with a way to justify the cost of the ceramic polishes.**

Ok, AIO is a very highly thought of product around here by many members. AIO is by all means not cheap but you never hear people complaining of the price of AIO because it comes in smaller bottles. Why is this? But when the "PO Twins" are always smashed because of their prices, and IMO are worth it!

And let's think of the fact that AIO has been around for a while now, and it's not a whole lot cheaper than the "PO Twins". So if the "PO Twins" stay around I would think the price would go down, don't ya think?

Chew on these #'s a little and tell me what you think!

AIO 10oz--$17.95 ( $1.79 Per oz )

AIO 16.9oz--$24.95 ( $1.47 Per oz )

AIO 33oz--$34.95 ( $1.05 Per oz )

PO85RD 32oz--$44.95 ( $1.40 Per oz )

PO106FF 32oz--$49.95 ( $1.56 Per oz )

Just thought this might be interesting, I don't mean to start a hate thread like my Blue Natty's thread went!:angry I was going to start a new thread, but I thought it would work fine right here because of the price discussion again! :D So let's discuss, not fight, and no hi-jacking the thread!

That's a good point and I think many have realized this because I've seen numerous posts of people looking to split bottles.

Plus it's just about what you feel comofortable buying. Some people swear by Souveran, for example.
